BMW to make Tri-Turbo engines

Don't know if this is a pearoast or not.

http://www.motoringspy.co.uk/693/2012-bmw-m3-new-tri-turbo-engine/

BMW are starting to develop Tri-turbo engines. The first one will be 3.0 diseasel pushing out 395bhp & 650lbft  :surprised:

There is also talk of them making a petrol version which pushes out circa 440bhp. Apparently it will be a similar system to the VAG supercharged/turbo charged engines with one turbo being small and dealing with low revs whilst the other 2 spin up and produce high end power.

Should be quite interesting seeing this come to fruition. Especially if the rumours are true of a diseasel M5 :driver:

Could have sworn I read somewhere the first turbo is driven electrically, so no lag and then picks up with the second and third turbos through the rev range. Could be talking absolute bow lucks though...

I did read that somewhere but can't find it now.

There will not be a diesel M5 IMO, it will be just above an M sport. BMW know how to play the game well and they know how much the 'M' brand means to customers and it's reputation.

I think you're wrong  After all many people thought they'd never go down a route of using turbo'd petrol engines...

An xDrive M5 diesel estate with 450bhp and 650lb ft capable of mid 30s mpg sounds like an awesome prospect to me.

I really don't think they would call it an m5 though. Not in a million years.

Probably something like a 550xd or 555xd

working with bmw, theres two chances of a diesel m5 and one is none  :P

you will prob find there will be a similar spec 5 series with all the m5 toys that has a diesel engine.

alot of these will be opitional extras more thank likely.

new m5 in our showroom soonish so i'll stick some pics up. its not a golf gti at the end of the day

I'm currently smoking around in a brand new 530d M sport 8 speed DCT. Aside from it being like trying to park a church, it's a fantastic car and stupidly fast cross country. 400 horses would be insane!
Sideways yo!
