Alternatives to extortionate VW pricing
« on: August 20, 2011, 06:15:50 pm »
I need a couple of things for my mark V and I must admit to being a little shocked and very nearly falling off my seat when my local dealership in Swindon quoted me for it.
These were ;
DSG oil/filter change @ £170
Replace, cut and reprogram lost key @ £160

As much as I'm not a cheapskate, I'm hoping someone can point me I'm the direction perhaps of a non VW dealer or route of getting either of these jobs done cheaper than the dealer seemed to want to pull my arm off for?
Any suggestions would be massively appreciated

Cheers in advance

Graeme

Your still will have to go to a dealer to purchase the proper oil in 1ltr bottles,dontknow what other peoples thoughts are on this but i think this oil change is better left to a dealer unless an independant has done quite a few before.

They seem about the going rate. Vw had an offer where the dsg oil change was 150 a couple months ago. Ring round and see if they'll budge.
Standard: Rear parking sensors, Parrot Bluetooth
Retro fitted: MFSW buttons, RCD510, Boot pop, Black Monza II, Xenons, Audi jacking points, open fog light grills.

How about trying a specialist such as Awesome GTI etc, I'm sure a few members on here could recommend some places :happy2:

Quick update ;
I've aired on the side of caution and booked into Mann Egerton VW in Swindon for the DSG oil change tomorrow.
However, for the key, I've found an independent Elec Key specialist in Swindon that works mobile, so will come to my work, carries genuine VW parts, can cut, program and set to my car a new three button key for £120 all in.
For my own peace of mind, he'll also 'decouple' the lost key from my car so that it will no longer disable the alarm or immobiliser within the cost
He came very highly recommended by a bunch of people when I asked amongst my friends, and is coming this afternoon, so I'll report back later as to whether I've saved £50-60 and a couple of hours off work getting the car to and from the VW dealer (they couldn't do at the same time as DSG change as apparently they don't hold stock of blank keys and it's 2wks L/T)

Have got mine booked in for Friday for DSG oil change although theres not quite 40,000 on it an engine warning light has come on so they can check that at the same time and yesterday the bonnet won't release again so they can look at that to  :scared: all this plus 2 new tyres needed shortly and an oil and filter change in a coulpe of months,expensive hobby these GTI's.
