MK6 Rear bumper retro-fit?
« on: March 29, 2009, 06:50:00 pm »
(Hope this isn't a re-post but I can't remember another thread about this so apologies if this isn't new)

As the mk6 Golf is really just a mildly facelifted mk5, I've had a good look at the rear bumper of the mk6 and wonder if it could be retrofitted to a mk5 easily? The shape and bends seem to be near enough in the right places.
Has anybody already looked into this? The MK6 has a nicer bumper design than the basic mk5 and it would be nice to give the mk5 an arse lift.
Obviously the mk6 GTI has the Leon with bodykit style pipe either side but the standard GT models have the pipes in the same place as a mk5.

Similar-ish angles both showing three quarter view, only real difference I can see is the corner of the rear light looks a different shape.

Mk6 rear is one piece, Mk5 rear is two piece; and as a result the Mk6 part won't fit due to the differently-shaped taillights and rear boot closure.

there's nothing to say it couldn't be done though if you were prepared to sacrifice the two bumpers to make one? would be alot of work though

it looks like to me, that for the purpose of the rear bumper the shape of the lights is the same right?
