Euro road trip (Pic Heavy!!!)
« on: August 21, 2011, 09:57:43 pm »
Hi all, earlier in the year me, my brother and my parents spent 2 weeks travelling round Europe. Me in the Golf, my brother on his Honda VFR and my parents on my Dads Honda Goldwing. We went from Newcastle to Amsterdam, then from Holland to Germany (visiting the Nordschleife naturally), Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg and Belgium before returning to Amsterdam. Needless to say it was a trip of a lifetime and Id recommend it to anyone.

I covered 3500 miles in those 2 weeks and apart from an oil top up in Northern Italy, the Golf didnt skip a beat. We took hundreds of photos and I thought Id share some of the better ones with you guys! Hope you like them  :popcornsoda:

Getting ready for the off at our home in Teesside

Waiting for the ferry at Newcastle

Me at the ring. I did do a lap but with it being the first time and having never seen videos or driven it on a games console the lap was abysmal (around 13 mins!!! lol)

One of the many services stop offs going from the Ring to Austria

A couple of close ups of Dads GL1800

Cochem, Germany

Finding our way through a German village

Austria in sight!

We visited Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria before crossing the German/Austrian border, this place was impressive and well worth a visit

Austria

Driving from Austria to Italy (and briefly through Switzerland)

We spent a day in Venice which was nice, the Pope was in town on the same day so it was a lot busier than usual

From Italy to Switzerland, probably the most impressive country of the trip

Last day in Amsterdam

Thanks for looking and im sorry if your PC/Laptop/Smartphone just had a heart attack processing all those pics!   :happy2:

If the journey was as interesting as your pics then that was a very well planned trip.

Great pics !

Looks like it was a great trip. I'd love to do something like this myself one day, can't think of a better way of spending 2 weeks.

wouldn't worry about your lap time, better to take it easy than risk it and ruin your trip

great trip. Some great photo's too.

Did you feel out of place? or did you Dad and brother feel out of place?  GTI VS Motorcycles :P

Just one question really. How is your car so clean thru a 3500 miles road trip?

Looks like you guys had a great trip.

Now that was a cracking photo montage. Excellent post and, I think, inspiring as well. I'd be very interested to read any reviews of places you stayed & so on. It would be helpful for anyone planning a similar trip next year (me!).

Well done Andy :congrats:

Great pictures fella. I did an alpine road trip in July through France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria.  :driver:
Switzerland and Germany were stunning. Looks like you had better weather than i did though.
I would post some pics up of my trip however mine are very amateur,  compared to yours  :sad1:
