I got asked to detail a friend’s car for a magazine shoot on Sunday. The mag was banzai. The car is a turbo’d Honda Civic Type R that has being turbo’d. It is currently running 308 bhp at just 5psi. The spec list is incredible.
Got there about 8 and the owner had already started washing it, so got there dried it, and started with the engine bay, got that cleaned up.
My polisher had stopped working at lower speeds, so I ordered a new speed controller and my friend fitted that while I prepped the car, he also sprayed his oil cooler black to add stealth as he had just fitted a new badgeless grill.
It was onto the wheels, clay, stag1 polish, stag 2 polish then rinse, dry then wax, while the wax was curing, I sealed the wheels, sorted the tyres and the minimal plastic parts on the car.
The bay
Next was the wheels, then clayed the full car, wasn’t taking many photos as was busy and had a lot to do.
Car all taped up and a few pics of the marks, swirls and other defects I could find, was hard to catch on the iphone
Can see some defects and swirls in this
Some 50/50’s, again struggled to catch them; these were after the first initial pass.
First time with a smaller backing plate and pad, works a lot better to get into the smaller parts.
Some pictures before I waxed it, after a 2 stage pass the paint looking alot better and a lot deeper, there is a lot of blue sparkle in the paint that could not be seen before.
Some finished pictures and the owner himself
