Tyre Dilemma
« on: August 22, 2011, 12:59:42 pm »
I have Hankooks on the front , one is 5mm and one is 2mm. I just noticed the 2mm one that I was changing this week anyway has got a sidewall rip on the tyre so needs changing asap. I have 3 options:

Buy one more hankook but then this will be new and my old one is 5mm.

Buy 2 new hankooks and keep the 5mm as a spare

Buy 2 different tyres and bin the 5mm Hankook

Any advice?

thanks

On ESP equipped cars you better change all four.

ps
the test is four years old - there are a lot of newer one

I changed all 4 of mine.

I wanted Vreds but had 2 almost new Avons on the front, however i then read mixing Directionals with Asymmetrics is a no-no so got another 2 vreds, changed all 4 at once and will now sell the Avons on fleabay

Loving the Vreds  :driver:

Thats a good point, I have asymetrics on the back (BF Goodrich) . I may order two more BF Goodrich for front and then they will all be the same.

Vreds are an asymmetrical tyre, therefore if you aren't replacing the Directional BFs on the back then buy 2 more BFs for the front. My recommendation to you if you want to have Vreds is that you are gonna have to buy 4 vreds and do all 4 corners at once. Then sell the 2 BFs from the rear on Ebay  :happy2:

If you mix the Vreds with the BFs you run a risk of the ESP kicking in at random moments as you corner. Some of the lads on here have experienced this as a result of mixing Asym with Directional and when it occurs you very quickly want to stop it from happening again  :scared:
