Milltek question
« on: March 28, 2009, 12:05:20 am »
Hi all!
I am booked in to get a turbo back milltek fitted on tuesday and was wondering if will have to get the car mapped or will it drive ok and not throw up faults with standard map?

Cheers John

Milltek themselves admit this does happen as the Lambda sensor detects too much heat and throws up the fault code. Doesn't happen all the time so you may be lucky  :happy2:

i believe it is the the other way round.  The Less back pressure, due to the bigger bore, and free flow cat reduces the temp differential between the 2 lambda probes and throws a CEL light.

I am in the same boat, i want to access the increased torque that the DP will give, but at the risk of a CEL light.

I may be totally wrong though, but that was the way it was explained to me.................

it will 100% put the cell light on after about 150 ish miles so u need stage 2 map to turn it off or might be able to turn it off in vag com

I wonder why all the garages I have enquired about this exhaust have not mentioned this to me!?

I ran a full TBE Milltek on a completely standard ED30 for 4000 miles and I had no lights or any problems  :surprised:

I was kinda half listening when explained to me by Charlie @ Milltek as it didn't effect me.............

As above, I'd stick it on and see. I didn't have a problem running Stage 1 Bluefin.

So it looks like I will have to spend another £500 on top of exhaust to get a remap!

Milltek themself advise that you should only get the high flow cats if you car is remapped as it's a waste on a non-mapped car.
Without traction power is nothing!

From what i have been told, you dont need to get the map, you just have to live with the cel on the dash.
Even if you go stage one, the light will still be on. I have ran about 1000 miles with the cel on and the car runs fine.
You cant switch it off in VAG, and i dont know whether the tuners can tinker with there map to switch the sensor off.

iirc RedRobin covered a substantial milage with his tbe without reporting any associated CEL.

I think I will be putting these bits on hold as price is starting to get crazy! Maybe best to save my money for my next car!

why are you looking to get a full TBE put on if you don't want to remap it?

you will not see any gains otherwise.

idea of TBE is so that you can remap it and release the extra oomph from the engine!!!!

I too was wondering this as I enquired about a Milltek system a couple months ago at John Mitchell Racing in Littlehampton who specialise in Milltek (any people used this place???).
They never said anything about a light coming on!, although he was going on a bit about a remap!!.
Wouldn't just the modification of a new exhaust do the job?? or would I only be gaining a louder motor?
