2.0 TDi and GT TDI

Silly question, but what is the difference?

If someone advertises a TDI as a GT TDI - as they are the same engine yes?

Possibly the same engine altho if it's a 1.9 then it's VW's slow 105 bhp version. I gues the difference with the 2.0 TDIi and the 2.0 GT TDI is the stiffer lower suspension and a few mod cons in the cabin. Possibly 16" 'Sport' wheels instead of th 15's. No doubt somebody more informed than me will come along and correct me if this ain't true.

This is the thing......how can you tell really, if someone is selling a basic TDI, but marking it up as GT TDI...?

The GT TDi has a new style GT front where as the pre-facelift has the front like my car or Dodds.

They were TDi Sport. But people class them as GT aswell just like I do

There is also the GT Sport just to throw a spanner in the works! 

In the later models - 56 plate on, the differences are obvious, GTi front bumper and 17" wheels, if you are looking at this year or newer the GT/GT Sport will all have the FL front, however the GT Sport is apparently not as good spec as the GT (not sure the difference on that though).  There is also the TDi Sport, TDi, and the GT.  Engine wise iirc they all use the BKD 2.0 16v PD140 until the addition of the PD170 and 1.4 TSi units.

TDI - this would be the 1.9tdi, 103bhp.
TDI SPORT - again, its the 1.9tdi 103bhp, the 'SPORT" just refers to the trim level eg it comes with alloys, coloured body bumpers etc.(Other trim levels are 'S', 'SE')
GT TDI - this is the 2.0tdi engine, early (non facelift) 2004/05 models are usually 140 version.

So, in order for it to be a GT model (early edition) it must be 140bhp?

Main reason, I'm looking at a new one, but there seems to be sooooo many people classing a TDI as a GT model!
