just had a go in an XJR
« on: August 25, 2011, 11:13:25 pm »
Guy in work just paid less than 7k for a mint 7 year old Jag XJR 400hp supercharged 4.2V8, im well impressed with it

Honest to god, its ******* savage.  Im genuinly shocked at the speed of it, i expected it to be quick, but theres something really wrong about being in such a comfy sedate looking luxury car that is as rapid as this.

he wants to start doing track days in it  .  Wouldnt want to be changing the tyres to iften though. 255 width 19" tyres :surprised:hes considering a remap as well lolwhich wont help

It actually handled really really well.  Feels like it rolls alot, but doesnt seem to run out of grip

Fantastic car

Had both the XKR and XJR...

Awesome motors.  It's possible to get 2mpg out of them too....

So hope there is a fuel station near the track

Don't know if chipping it will make much difference. Better off IMO with handling & stopping.
No Golf anymore.
Enjoyed the last five years of ownership of Mk5 & 6 GTIs.
Plus an excellent forum for knowledge and new ways to deplete the bank account.
Thank You Everyone.

What can be done to the handling though without ruining the ride quality which is awesome.  Thought the brakes were pretty good tbh

Your not wrong about fuel from what i gather lol.  We have a tescos accross the road, and the new deal where you can cash in 3x 5p/litre  discount vouchers at once, so i dont think hes experienced the true fuel cost yet.  Not sure what he'll get in normal running, mid 20s id imagine.

Exhaust, 18% smaller SC pulley and mapping = +50hp / 60 ftlb

an extra 50hp would make this crazy fast lol.

Finished early today, and am home bored so ive just been looking at what you can get for less than 8k super saloon wise, some awesome options, and a whole lot of car for the money

Jag XJR 4.0V8 Supercharged 400Hp
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3078535.htm

Jag S Type R 4.0V8 Supercharged 400hp
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3128662.htm

Jag XKR 4.0V8 Supercharged coupe
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2896534.htm

Audi S6 Avant 4.2V8 Quattro
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3152985.htm

Looked at the Audi RS4/RS6 and no chance for less than 8k unless they have intergalactic mileage

BMW M5 4.0V8 400Hp
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3153170.htm

Holden HSV 5.7V8 (just over 8k) 412Hp
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3037652.htm

Mercedes S55 AMG Supercharged 5.5LV8 493hp/517lbft  :scared:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2383036.htm

For me its all about the Jags loads more car, and much newer and lower mileage.  Audi RS models and even S models really really hold their money :congrats:.  I still cant get over that XJR, theres something just wrong about it.

Especially with clarkson driving it getting it airborne  :pomppomp:

You'd have to drive a Jag though, and unless you're over 60 that is just plain wrong!

funnily enough i was looking at the V8 400bhp M5 the other day...rather cheap and good bargain now!

then i thought about running costs and fuel bills....

can't ever see me forking out £100 per fill up!

 :sad1:

Nope, great car, but I still think Jags suffer from a poor image. Granted it is getting better, but I think they really need a cutting edge 3-series competitor.

I think the Jagdeo and the S-type were a strange pair but the current XF, XK and even the XJ are very nice.

If only the XJ was as achingly beautiful to look at as it is to drive. I really, really want to love it, but it's just not right. Two of my neighbours have them, one of which is an amazing aubergine colour, but each time I see them I'm frustrated, particularly by it's rump.
