Hi from the new guy!
« on: August 26, 2011, 05:27:44 pm »
Hey people, been visiting the site for a while now and im really amazed by the welcoming feel you guys seem to possess! So I thought i'd finally join you!

I drive a grey 2005 GTI and ive already found numerous threads very helpful (and reasuring before I try doing things to my pride and joy!). I hope to modify my car as I get the money, and also hope you guys can continue giving me ideas along the way!

Enough of my waffling, heres a few pictures of the car as she is! So far I have done a rear wiper delete, K&N panel filter, open lower front fog light grilles, lamin-x'ed my mirror indicators, added pressed plates and vented, drilled and grooved discs all round with mintex pads. Rims and new rubber are next on the cards and hopefully more after that! This modifying game is so addictive!

Cheers for having me! James  :happy2:

Welcome!

Wealth of information and plenty of banter over here mate, watch your wallet though as visiting tends to make you spend money on modifying!

Interior pic is cool!

Mike

Welcome James. Best colour GTI you have

Did you de-badge the rear? I've never thought about it before but I think it looks extra clean and tidy.
5th Pic is really well done  :happy2:

Did you notice much of an improvement on the Mintex pads?  The Gti brakes seem to be the Achilees heel of the chassis with most upgrading the complete setup

Hey guys!

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the compliments on the car! Always nice when people say nice things about it!

WESTON, GARETHB, RDFCPETE - I must admit when I first decided to get a GTI, I was looking for a tornado red one. I eventually found one that looked decent, arranged a viewing and halfway there the guy called me and said he was swapping it for a 2.0TDI A3! Not good, especially when my mate had dragged himself outta bed early to drive me 150 odd miles to go and have a look! But hey, now I have a grey one, id have to say its the best colour too (in my opinion!) I think that the grey makes the car look more sophisticated or mature in a way!? Less boy racer.. which I like to think the GTI is!

RDFCPETE - Yep, I have removed the GTI badge from the rear, it wasnt easy making the choice to have it off, as its a badge I like to display with pride on the front of the car! I think doing that with the wiper delete makes the car look slightly wider and a lot smoother from behind. Which can't be a bad thing right!  :happy2:

Finally, TFSI_MIKE - Glad you like the interior picture, fisheye lenses are a lot of fun! And as for the Mintex pads... the old standard discs and pads I had on the car when I got it were totally shot, so throwing an anchor out of the window could have been an improvement really! But I would definately say now they are worn in that they dont fade off half as much after a good hoon as the old standard ones (but the fact the new discs are vented, drilled and grooved may help this).

Again! Waffle over!  :ashamed:
