As pdt said the 3 series is a bit flabby in the handleing stakes and needs a fair bit of work to sort it ! They are briliant cars though although not an improvement over the golf on the twisties imo

Bens mapped dual clutch 135i was basically as quick as the stage 1 TTRS up to 100mph when we were fooling around at GTI International.  :happy2:

Yup.

Even my bog stock manual on runflats was whooping most of the field at Inters, the poor kid in the Golf R refused to believe it wasn't mapped.

:signLOL:

Beginning to wish I had bought the one above now.... oh well   :sad1:

Was a great price too ...

You can always buy one but spec is the key with BMWs. Know your spec and know your price and then wait for the right one.
That is how I ended up with a 525D rather than a 325D. I couldn't find the right spec or the right price for a 325D but when I saw the 525 I knew I had to have it. Had a look at a few 123D M Sport Coupe as well but it was just a bit too small for me but they were fun to drive!

yeah things that are a mare to retrofit etc, it had the basic sound system, no cruise, no bluetooth, pretty much out of the box car. It was difficult to give up on all my toys (there probably isn't an option apart from recaros that I don't have)...it is going to be difficult to get into something that is a skeleton.  :jumping: made that error years ago when I specked up a mazda mx5 from new, read somewhere that the basic one was the way to go to lighten things up etc....then I was forever in envy trying wind windows up and down by hand and always shuddered when I looked at the steel wheels.

Lovely looking car Tony

Just wished they had a bit more space in the back (for bikes)

Remember my old ED30 316 touring with great fondness. You cant beat rwd in any form!

Cheers, it's great fun!

Bikes - Yeah, you'd be talking roof racks or boot mounts, although the rear seats do actually fold - so with some shoving I've had my bike bag in there. But, I've also got an A6 Avant which does everything  :signLOL:

Are they the 18's or 19's on yours please Tony?

It does look great.  I was looking at a lesser spec'd 120D Coupe yesterday and it didn't look great tbh - needs the right options I think.

I think white looks nicest, but it's too 'look at meee' for my taste.

Can you get Imola Red?

18" BBS BMW Motorsport, they didn't come on the car thought I had to find them, as they're quite rare.

Mine has pretty much everything, and I think the options do make a nicer car. Logic 7 & Pro Nav, xenons, red leather etc etc. There's quite a lot of nice stuff in the BMW Performance catalogue too, I've added the carbon rear spoiler and shortshift kit. Quite fancy the alcantara steering wheel II, but £500?.

Most reds tend to be the metallic Sedona, but I think flat Japan red may have also been a option?

BMWP bits - hundreds of them, including remaps that don't affect warranty. You'd spend serious money!!

Had a play with my mates 335i last night.

Hes running a jb4 tuning box, 50/50 meth, intercooler upgrade,LSD, and full decat exhaust upgrade, from 40mph to whatever number you like they are pretty neck and neck. Claimed bhp is 450. Mines a stage 2 TTRS about 420bhp. That means its as quick as a murcielago (at more modest speeds anyway)  :happy2:

i love these cars and my ideal one was a 123d in alpine white with the red boston leather.

personally nothing comes close to these cars for looks and interior if you buy the right spec
and the mpg's are great for such a powerfull little car

my only objection with bmw's is spec! i feel you really have to splash the cash for things which
i think should come standard at the price you pay for a basic models.

there is some crackin 2nd hand ones on the market. just getting one with all the toys.

There may be a sting in the tail here....I think the new 2012 versions of the 1-series are coming and they look fugly....watch this space....

No wait,....I have had a look round...they arent that bad, I think I must have been referring to early release shots (I recall a much earlier post that showed new versions and they were horrible)....just googled and they seemed to have saved themselves. Its BACK on my list of top cars....if ONLY they did a 4-wheel drive Bimmer, living in Scotland means that they tend to be seen abandoned at the side of the road from November through to April......  :rolleye:
