Footwell lights?
« on: August 27, 2011, 08:33:54 am »
Just in process of replacing all standard bulbs with LED's. Came to footwell lights, removed them from car but cant seem to work out how to open the case to change the bulb without breaking it. Anyone know?

Also are the puddle lights in wing mirror easy to change? seen on another thread they w5w bulbs so will order some.

also what bulbs are in the footwell lights?

Cheers.

Found a thread, appears you have to bend the metal slightly to get to the bulb on footwell and 501's.

Will get these ordered.

Just need info on the puddle lights in the wing mirror. Does case just pop off underneath?

For removing the puddle lights you have to push the wing mirror forward, this will reveal a small torx screw (no 6 I think). Once this is removed the lens will pry out from under the mirror, the bulb holder and wiring are still attached so be careful. The bulb holder can be removed by just pulling it out of the lens and the W5W bulb can be pulled out. Hope this helps.    :happy2:

It’s a great mod, looks really good. Did mine as I bought some supposedly can-bus friendly side light bulbs but they put the bulb warning light on in the dash, moved them to the puddle lights as they are not monitored by the can-bus system and have not had any problems since. Thanks for the Thank You.  :happy2:

The 501's are the same as the W%W sidelight bulb aren't they?

Any idea what bulb is fitted in the interior lights?

As above.

2 501's in front central light + 42mm fastoon i believe
3 501's in rear central light
2 42mm fastoon bulbs for sun visors
2 501's in footwells
2 501's Sidelights
2 501's puddle lights
2 37mm fastoon for rear number plate bulbs.

I believe the sizes to be correct for the fastoon bulbs but will confirm later this week as i swap over to the new LED's ive ordered.

*note to self to remove LED's when i change car as costing me a small fortune each time now lol *

looks so much better, just waiting on all my LED's got kinda mix match in my car at moment lol.

Was it hard to prise the metal away without damaging it? I only had a quick look and was baffled on how to do it without damaging it before i read on here you need to bend the metal.

Getting it out of the car was the hardest part.  I used an electrical screw driver to just ease the metal box off, this did distort it slightly but is was easy enough to re-shape.

Looks good, that will be my next mod me thinks
leds have a lower power consumption than the standards dont they ?
Are the interior leds can sensative ? Do they need a resistor built in or will any led with the correct fittings work

I think some are, and some aren't.  These - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320665464032?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 - are the ones I have fitted as sidelights and in the interior now, they are error free so it doesn't matter either way, and for a fiver a pair they don't exactly break the bank.
