Anyone got a GOOD NEWS letter from VW?
« on: August 23, 2011, 11:27:29 am »
Just got a letter from my VW dealer saying ''our Regional Director has asked me to contact you regarding some good news about your vehicle, please contact me on XXXXXXXX quoting reference XXXXXXXX ''

Haven't got time to ring them today, just want to know if anyone else got this?

I would be very careful that it isnt a scam mate, if htye have your address and reg details for example but need the rest of your details from a phone call to get hold of a V5 or something. Might just be being paranoid but do VW even have regional directors and if so what are they doing getting people to write non-descript letters to customers......

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

I agree with Rich. I'd phone VW uk customer service and see what they say about it. I'm sure they would know.

Plus it would probably make a change from them getting calls about rust  :signLOL:

+1, sounds fishy as hell to me. Ring VW customer services and see if they know anything about it.

sounds very suspect to me. Who says "I've got good news for you but you have to ring this number to find out more"?  :chicken:

And i'd hardly consider the news of decent or better trade in prices as universally 'good news' - yes it's good to hear but the chances are i'm not looking to sell and if i do happen to be why can't you put that info in the bloody letter you've just sent me?!  :stupid:

Sounds like a plain old sales marketing letter to me :drinking: You'll give them a bell quote that number and they will say something like
"You've been selected to attend our VIP sales event this weekend where you can expect to save £000's off selected models"
Or
"We have a customer waiting to buy your car please give us a call to discuss an amazing deal on a new GTI"

Something along those lines :drinking:

^^ Me too - once you're on their database there is no escape!

Though, still worth Googling the phone number to if it comes up on any of the scam or consumer websites.

Not quite the same, but similar - I got a VIP invite thing to the dealer where I bought my GTI (which interestingly isn't my local dealer) which promised substantial discounts on a range of cars.

A good friend works at my closest Audi dealer and he said they did the same VIP thing on exactly the same date, which resulted in them selling a good number of brand news cars. He said they gave discounts of up to £3k on list stuff, including £2500 from list price on a brand new S3.

I don't know how unusual that is or whether it's a gimmick.
