Oil under the car!!
« on: September 03, 2011, 10:05:41 am »
Morning people!

I jacked the car up today as at some point this week i will be changing my intercooler. When i took the bottom panel off there was a small plastic can with oil all around it. Does any one know what this is? Obviously i want all problems out the way before i remove the old IC! Thanks in advance!!

Your oil filter is in there.
The cannister is made of plastic and may well have cracked causing oil leakage. If not tightened properly the same may occur.
Without traction power is nothing!

Arrh, now it even looks like it!! Just to confirm, this is under the car! Seems like fiddling with cars is like houses, you always come across something!!

That's 100% your oil filter housing. If it's leaking you could try and nip it up but it's a good opportunity for some fresh oil  :happy2:

Theres an orange nipple inside that cap, you can depress it to release the oil out first without unscrewing the whole canister before taking the filter out! (designed to be less messy), but your also supossed to press it again to releae it, otherwise oil will just pi$4 out!, this may of been forgotten and just the cap screwed back on!

With out the super overpriced special tool to drain the housing it can still be a bit messy.
