Looking to upgrade audio kit..any suggestions?
« on: August 29, 2011, 03:47:34 pm »
Afternoon all, I'm a new (ish) owner of a Mark5 GTI and I'm thinking about upgrading the stereo. I've currently got the bog standard VW CD/Radio etc..I was thinking I'd spend up to about £300..any thoughts / suggestions / recommendations as to what I should get?

Cheers!

RCD510 + Can-Gateway. Otherwise an aftermarket radio.

Take your pic.

£300 won't give you a lot for improvement. But going to the MK6 radio made a good difference in my car. Aftermarket radio even better.
But me? I personally opted to stay with my MK6 Radio + Installed a JBL MS-8.

kenwood double din head units are good as well. You can get them for around £500.
These have sat nav & bluetooth built in and if you have the steering wheel controls, they can be linked up to these and display info on a highline cluster.
I play movies and music vids right off my ipod.
I couldnt recomend these enough and there was a deffo sound improvment from my standard speakers although i have the 10 speaker upgrade

I bought mines a few years ago for my mk5 at a cost of £1100!!

Still works brilliant and is now in my new mk5 gti.

RNS units are good but personally think you get more for your money with the kenwoods.
This is a pic of mine in my old mk5
