RE: Two Last Questions for Today
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:18:20 pm »
Hi
I'm certainly getting my money's worth here !  Sorry for all the questions.

So first off, how do you take the engine cover off the ED30, sounds simple and looks simple, but for the life of me couldn't find anything to undo or unclip and I didn't want to force anything.

Second question, has anyone installed  a Forge replacement valve on there ED30 and if so, any hints or pictures ??

Cheers for now

Robert

Do it when the engine is hot. Start at the back right corner once you have disconnected everything.

Cheers lads... I've read a couple of these tips before, but when looking at the engine cover it looks like it is almost hinged from the back and so was really hesitant to pull it harder than I was.... I reckon I'm going to wimp out and take it to TripleH Motorsport.... just found out they are are local VAG specialist .... so will give them a simple job to see what they are like

Make sure they grease the grommets so it's easier next time.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

As for the Forge DV I would not bother. IMHO you're better of going for the newer revision D piston type DV - part no: 06H145710D  :happy2:

Make sure they grease the grommets so it's easier next time.

Don't use normal grease or coppa grease - use only silicone grease.  Any other type of grease will rot the rubbers, making them go soggy.
