Posting replies to classified ads
« on: September 07, 2011, 02:52:16 pm »
I may be being a complete dunce here but as far as I can see I cannot respond to classified ads?

If this is the case then my suggestion is this:
Fair enough on the not being able to start your own topics until a certain post count that is quite common across most forums but not being able to reply to a topic is abit much as some people such as myself may have joined the forum with the intention to buy a mk5 golf and then can't express an interest in members cars/parts for sale on here.

Thanks
Shane

You can post a thread to alert the forumite to it. Stops people signing up to purely to look at the classifieds without browsing the rest of the site. Also tries to dissuade people from ripping other people off.

You need 10 posts to be able to reply to for sale ads as well as PM.

They is no point giving people access to reply to threads when they can't PM.

Ah right that is fair enough I thought it was the 25 posts, the PM thing is a new one to me aswell but I get what you mean about the stopping people just coming on here to browse the classifieds

So myself and jedi-knight had to do all that posting - Deleted - Posting - Deleted, to express interest in a forum members car that needs quick sale!!

I can fully understand the rule but damn, its hard enough to get interest in selling a car in present financial times, just seems a backward move imho..

Your basically showing cars for sale to members who already have gti's etc..

And alienating lurkers like myself and jedi (who is a very prospective buyer) from contact with the seller...

Just a thought as this is forum suggestions.

Cheers Jeff  :happy2:

But posting 1,2,3 etc isn't the way to go about it. That is 100% spam and why one of the moderators removed it.

It doesn't take much to be a member of this site. Some of us have been here for years. Others have been here for weeks but 10 posts is nothing. Posting silly posts is basically spamming the forum. There was nothing wrong with posting a thread asking the seller to email you or similar either.

Fair enough chaps no drama just a thought.

Time was a factor for the 1,2,3 spamming thing (dont know what jedi did) of which i apologised earlier.

Im a member on Pistonheads (5yrs) and recently posted a mountain bike for sale, 8 emails and a sale later i found that not one was a pistonheads member!!

having googled my original advert it came top of list with link to pistonheads sale thread, and full access to coms with me!!

Having watched the car classifieds on here for approx 6 months, and seeing cars lingering on and on with price reduced do i not have a valid point for your members with cars for sale.

I.E the linger's have the monies

As said 10 posts is nothing and im in now so smashin.

Jeff

We aren't pistonheads and aren't here to facilitate free car ads.

So you have seen how the forum works for the last 6 months then see a car you want, then stupidly spam the forum knowing that we are not fans of this type of sh*t.  :stupid:
To be honest you dont sound old enough to drive, i hope you buy the car then disappear back to lurkedom.

The forum is here for all to use, we are more than happy for people to gather info from the forum without ever taking part, but when it comes to selling and buying items it helps that we know them somewhat from their posts or when at meets. It is not fool proof but it does give a bit of confidence.  All you needed to do is start a new member thread, then ask in that thread about the car and more importantly the owner, you would then get your post count up and also learn a bit about where all your money may be going. Hows that for a suggestion.

Good luck.

Edit messgae disappeared that i replied to.  :chicken:

If you had made those posts over your six months of being on this forum, no one would have said anything. Indeed, there are members who've joined within the last fortnight and have more than thirty posts to their name.
