GT TDi 170 Injectors - Common Problem?
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:34:31 am »
Well I've had an injector go on my GT 170 and wondered if it was a common problem and if the injectors could be refurbished?

I've just had to pay £953 for the injector and the wiring harness to be fixed....

Cheers

I reckon it's a common fault as I know of 2 170's that it's happened too. They were done on warranty tho.

I think you should push for a partial (dependent on amount of service history) refund.

A friend has just had the remaining 2 injectors (2 changed as single units when they stopped functioning in the last 6 months) changed by Audi FOC.

All 4 were changed FOC, he had a long chat with Audi C/s, and they sorted it.

Car was well out of warranty (2007/07 plate) with FSH.

yeah that the issue you see, mine ran out of warranty ages ago (56 plate) and hasn't been serviced at main dealer for the last few times, always VW parts have been used juts wasn't preparend to pay the labour....

I've taken out a warranty now for a year so hopefully that will help if the need arrises.

Cheers

The pieza(sp) injectors are a weak spot of the 170 diesel but they where also fitted to the 140 pd but only in the Passat, a little tip if you call vw customer services and demand that they be all changed due to safety reasons they will do it! After all you dont want sudden loss of power when your over taking and have a head on with someone coming the other way?? This has been discussed a lot on honest John and Vw don't want to recall the cars so they are just paying for the repairs BUT you need to contact VWCS and demand they be changed and you be compensated for what you have already paid.

How come they were only fitted to the passat 140 and not the golf ? my friend at work has the passat 140 and his went like you say sudden loss of power engine light went on etc. he's had them replaced and now his dmf is starting to go. what a nightmare. was worried that this would happen to my golf, so are the injectors of a more reliable sort that they are fitting in recalls / and as standard on other models?

Sorry to hear of your issues Daz.

Is this an issue that hasn't so far been affecting the post 2008 VAG common rail 170ps engines, specifically the Mk6 and A3 8P3 (facelift) platform in the same way?

I had an Injector go down at '70' mph in the outside lane of the M2 at approx 70,000 miles. It was a scary situation; total loss of power and was forced to barge my way across 2 lanes of unhelpful traffic and fortunately coast up a slip road!  :scared:
Our 170 was still in warranty but VW would only give 'good will' to the lease company.  It took us 6 hours to finish the last 52 miles of our journey and  the GT sat in the local stealers for 5 days while they argued about the cost!!!! :fighting:........................ They only replaced the faulty injector and associated loom.
Apart from that and 4 replacement exhaust sensors it covered 127,000 miles in 41 months faultlessly.
