16GB SDHC Card and RNS510 B Compatibility?
« on: September 09, 2011, 01:31:21 pm »
Hi all,

Recently bought a class 10 16gb SDHC card for use in the RNS510 Version B I had retrofit a few months ago.

I appear to have a version of firmware which features a balance/fader in graphical form and the headunit was reconned by Morty within the last 6-12 months so I am confident the firmware is recentish at worst.

The SD card is as above and totally normal. I've tried it with FAT and EXFAT and Reformatted it a couple of times, but I just get an 'SD Card Error' type message.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong chaps?

Thanks
Regards
Matt

If you have the 1100 B version firmware you will have the new graphical fader with pic of the car and the volume pop up at the bottom of the screen but not the SDHC support.  Do you know what gateway version you have? just wondering if it was recommended for battery drain purposes, either way you will need a firmware update for the SDHC card to work.  So it will either be one of the hacked for older gateway versions (I ran a few of these before changing my gateway wihtout issue) or a normal version if your gateway is new enough.

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

Sorry mate, I don't follow half of that.

I didn't buy any of the above for any particular reason - A version B came up and I bought it lol.... I don't have any idea what Gateway I have as I thought I would just chance the battery drain thing.... No problems yet (touch wood) but that's all I can tell ya....

Are we basically saying that it's 'likely' I have a firmware which is in between the one which has the Balance/Fader GUI and the one that supports SDHC cards?

Thanks
Matt

Exactly Matt, I reckon you have 1100 firmware which has some of the new visuals but not SDHC support so you will need to update to something like 1300 which is a special for battery drain that supports SDHC but not voice control.

Ah thanks mate.

1300 sounds perfect because I don't have any interest in voice control and have actually got a Bluetooth kit that only supports basic RNS integration and no voice control.

So is 1300 a download, burn, install, done kinda thing?

My 510 has definitely been reconned by Morty and the code is stuck on a sticker on top of the unit so to get it, is have to take the dash apart.... Is that a given with doing a firmware update?

Thanks again.

Matt

you wont need the code thats stored in the cluster so unless you swop that you wont need the code again.  if your unit came from darren then it should be good to go on a update burn it as slow as possible on good quality media.  and do some reading up on the process so you know what to expect but it will take some time and you need to do it without the key in the ignition etc etc. I ran the 1300 on mine for awhile with no battery drain and SDHC cards working it also gave a speed upgrade on the unit compared to 1100.
