newbie remap questions

yep me again.... i am seriously considering getting the new girl re mapped.
 but as i know absolute;y nuffink about it and what to expect how much to pay the pros the cons....
is there a guide or a thread which explains it all to an numpty like me or can i start a  dummys guide here and now.

i had an APR map and now have a custom map from MRC tuning and i thought the MRC map was much better but then its a custom map so they run the map while you driving and make changes to it after they have data logged your car.

you can have a map that can be completley unique to your car or you can get a generic map that is put on all golf gti's

since the MRC map is cheaper than APR by £50 and its a custom map i would definitley go for MRC - http://www.mrctuning.com/products.php?do=engine&brand=VW&model=Golf%20Mk5

they are specialist Tuners for Audi Rs4's and have a huge amount of experience - they are based near oxford
Candy white GTI, MRC tuning Remap - the rest will remain standard...

If you're considerng a remap I would also recommend a "Dogbone Torque Insert". This is around £30-40 and takes 20 mins to fit. Link below:

The purpose of this is to reduce "wheel bobbing" under hard acceleration and also avoid any damage to your exhaust mounts near the transmission/engine bay.  The increase in torque etc. puts a bit more stress on some of the mounts etc.  Nothing to worry about but a precautionary measure.

Apart from that you will need to consider changing your spark plugs a little more often than usual, say every 20-25K miles.  Otherwise, it's a must do mod.

i am a complete novice so altho i understand the priciple and why i "need" to do it lol!
and i,m becoming aware from the reviews on what impact it will have on the car.and lookinhg forward to that for sure.
is the Dogbone Torque Insert" the only consideration i need to make.?

do i need to change to a milly/blueflame exhaust to ge the best from it or is that mostly cosmetic sight and sound wise?
dumb questions for most of youi i,m sure but i gotta do the research before i invest more money than my GF will like and therefore know about  :signLOL:

i,m near southend in essex. anyone know of nearest place to recommend??

You don't need to go for an exhaust upgrade.  If you have the cash then an exhaust upgrade will allow you to get more gains from the remap.

There are two types of exhaust upgrades, i.e. turbo-back (TBE), or cat-back (CBE) on the GTi.  A turbo back will replace from the down-pipe attaxhed to the turbo all the way back and gives you the most gains...but there is a premium for that.  Also, the remap will need to take into account the change to exhaust flow (stage 2 remap).

There is a lambda sensor around the downpipe which can set off warning lights if you do not get the appropriate remap.  A lot of remappers simply increase the threshold for raising the warning light from the lambda sensor.

Exhausts are both cosmetic and performance upgrades.  I have always heard good things about Milltek, and installing a cat-back resonated one myself (strapped for cash  :rolleye:).

mate that helps a hooge amount.
 i,m not sure that i,m after that much of a performance related exhaust and altho i luurve that grunt ad burble. i,m 43 so no boy racer! and the cash could be used much beta on the car.
