poor mpg...
« on: September 10, 2011, 10:05:07 am »
im interested to see what everyone else is getting on a daily mixed drive.

my fuel consumption is pretty bad. if i am driving sensible on motorways and towns i am lucky to get an average of 32mpg! heard quite a few people on here getting alot higher! on motorway journeys i can hit about 38mpg driving at 60!! personally a think this is quite bad? anyone else?

i never bought the car because of its good fuel consumption but always hear of people getting good mpg on gtis

Alright bud, I've had my gti for 2 months now and I haven't seen anything higher than 31mpg on mine!!!??? Still think thats good though because I had a mk3 gti which did that to the gallon and had 80 less bhp, I'd be happy with yours mate if thats what your getting.

Wow your consumption is pretty good.
The best I can get on highway is 28mpg, I average around 24-25mpg
I had it to vw a few times with "nothing wrong", so I just live with it.

I found a thread on golfmk5 from memory, someone had the same consumption. Turned out to be a vacuum line behind the engine. My laptop crashed so never actually got to read the full thread. However I will try and find it.

I will hopefully install my boost gauge with in the next week. Then see if I'm loosing boost due to leak or if there is actually a problem.

2005 (55) plate on an AXX engine, have seen 42 on a very conservative journey, realistically though day to day sub 20mile commute get about 28-320 per tank, if there are any long journeys then I can get 350 to the tank but then we are on fumes. Don't know what that equates to but 25mpg -28 normal and up to 36 mpg on long long cruise journeys.

I think you are doing VERY well to get an average of 32mpg on a GTI on a mixed journey.

I average around 28mpg and thats with a mix of town driving and dual carriageway's etc.  I do get upto 35mpg with prolonged m'way cruising, aided by the cruise control.

Had mine for a month and average 34mpg. 30 mile drive per day mixed between dual carriageway (dcw) and town. 80% time spent on dcw with good few traffic lights. Pretty conservative on the driving but not so much as to be thinking about it. That's pretty good mileage you're getting.  :happy2:

PS I just use 95 RON. Some people say you get more miles on the higher octane stuff and better performance. Bit too pricey for me, but if I did shop in Tesco's more often I would probably get a better price.

Most I've done on a tank is Nurburgring to Bournemouth - about 450 miles, so circa 39 mpg. Pretty reasonable given the way the roads immediately to the west of Nurburg invite you to drive.

I can get 38-39mpg on a motorway run not taking it easy either, and an average of around 34mpg overall. The mpg on this current map is exceptional but Standard and stage 1 gave around 32-33mpg.

Best MPG: 46.1  (on a 100 mile motorway drive keeping religiously to 70mph with no WOT)

Average around town: 25-27mpg

Combined: 36-38mpg

Normal motorway: 38-41mpg

All the above during the summer months only - don't even get close to these in the winter   :chicken:

These FSI engines are great if your gentle with the right pedal. that said, I used to get 40+ mpg in my civic typeR  :happy2:
