R32 exhaust and valance swap...

Just after a bit of advice and tips from those of you who've changed to a R32 rear valance and central twin exhaust set up......

Firstly where did you get your rear valance from? was it from VW direct and if so does anybody have the current part numbers and prices for all the bits i'd need??

I understand i'd need the valance itself, the exhaust surround, 2 reflectors, tow eye cover and possibly 2 mounting plates/fixings??

Secondly i've rung around for a prices for a replacement back box with central tips and it seems to be coming out not much cheaper than buying a full cat-back system  does this sound right???

Thought i'd be able to replace my existing box at not too much cost and then just swap the lower valance over but the prices i'm getting quoted so far seem alot more expensive than i thuoght it would be... 

Another things i was suprised at is that i was told i can only get the rolled tips on a miltek system and not the slash cut ones i've seen on many of the cars on this forum..... are these an older style as my current exhaust has the rolled bolted on tips and is about a year or so old

Hi Dave, from what I’ve found out there is not really a cheap way to do this. I got a complete lower bumper in the right colour from a member on here, as for price I think it’s more what is available at the time and what you are willing to pay. There are conversions on e-bay but you hear about quality problems. If you do a search all the part numbers are on this site. As for the exhaust again e-bay has conversions for the GTI. I will be getting this done on mine soon and have the lower bumper and will be taking the car up to Nigel at BCS to have the exhaust custom made, BCS will then be manufacturing systems from then. Thanks Stephen i think i saw the thread about BCS needing a donor car for a few hours to make the first R32 style system, i'll be keeping an eye on this and maybe go for one of those if it gets good reviews, i'm not in any rush so can take my time deciding, definitely prefer the look of that system as my miltek has a massive back box and isn't much smaller on the R32 style system they do 

I've found a few part numbers for the valance and fittings searching on here but just wondered if they were current as the threads were dating from around 2009 

Anybody who's done this chosen a different route and gone with another company for the exhaust??

hi.
The lower half of the valance is all you need in bumper terms. Do not buy the part of the bumper that goes around the lights.

the lower half cost me £315+ ince all reflectors n toe eye from VW in 2009. (Ive just sold it for £210)

Thanks was just after a rough idea if anyone had done it recently seems to be a 2009 thing maybe  

I'll give VW a bell on monday and see what they say, part numbers would be handy tho if anyone has them, not sure if the ones i've found from very old threads are still in use, as my local dealers part dept has no clue at all   God knows what they would order in if i just described it to them, when i enquired about a lower valance for an edition30 the guy looked at me like i was mad and asked what year the car was and was it a mk4??  

I know i only need the lower valance, surround, toe eye cover etc but its good to brace myself for the quote  

Anyone done this more recent than a few years ago??

I fitted mine about 12 months ago.
The part numbers won't be any different as the part has not changed.
Though the prices may be different.
I paid £200 for the lower bumper, £80 for the diffuser surround, and £15 each for reflectors.
Then another £100 to get it all painted.
then another £700 on the exhaust to fit.....

I had a milltek R32 style one, and got rid of it as the backbox hung too low.
Then put a Pipeworks one on, then replaced that with a blueflame one.
They are all around £400 each though.
You can go to a garage and some may move the tips to the centre for you for a lot less I should think.

Yeah thats what i think about my backbox now so unless i can get hold of a shallower box like i think Robin has got then i'll be going for a BCS one when they have made the test one and start selling them..... they look
