Battery Drain & Poor Sound Quality after RNS 510 installation.
« on: September 11, 2011, 09:45:36 am »
Hey guys,

I've just purchased an RNS510 to replace the bog standard kit in my '06 GTI. I'm contemplating taking on the installation myself but have read about battery drain, poor sound quality if you don't swap various connections around and other little problems. Can anyone advise on this please? I don't want to take this on if I'm likely to make pigs ear of it.

Any thoughts?

Cheers..

Battery drain will be due to filmware on my old 06 plate gti i had an rns510 late version b with 1100 filmware and had no issues, as for the sound quality it will be fine unless you have the factory fitted ipod dock, even then this will only effect the sound in i pod mode,

Before the install make sure you source the ariel adaptor as 06 plates use a differant type to the rns 510, otherwise its just plug and play !

Hi
If you get battery drain it will be down to the firmware on the RNS
You can always change the firmware or upgrade your gateway depending on what you want the RNS to do (voice control, full postcode entry or Rear view camera)
If you do need a gateway I have them in the for sale section

Cool, I'll hunt down an aerial adaptor, I'm sure someone on here will be able to point me in the right direction. I've bought the VW 7.2 RNS 510 MFD3 HDD SD..can you tell from that description if it's an old or late version, and will or will not impact upon the battery?

Move the cable going to pin 2 into pin 3 in the small blue (normally) connector block that's going into the back of the RNS. The location of the ground was moved between gen 2 and 3 headunits.
