Tyre Recommendation - 18"
« on: September 11, 2011, 09:04:38 pm »
Hi All,

I need a couple of tyres for my 18" Monzas.  Really want something quiet for a longish commute, but also hard wearing

Any recommendations from experiences would be good.  Likewise, anything to avoid as well.

I've just come from an S3 with Michelin PS3s on, and they were good.....but pricey!

I had Toyo Proxes T-1Rs which were a very good tyre and gave me 20k miles. however they've since changed the tread design so i can't comment on the new ones. i would assume they're better!

i'm running Falken FK452s now. for the price they're very good and road noise is signifcantly less than the Toyos or any of the tyres i was running on my 17" clad A3 1.6 Sport.

i get my tyres from camskill. fitting should be around a tenner a corner. i couldn't find anyone that would match camskill's prices

I had the Falkens FK452's on my vRS and got got no more than 5k out of them...... :scared:

I currently have Hankook EVO II on the front and Kumho KU31's on the rear, particularly happen with the Kumho's and I only paid 75 quid per corner including fitting.   :happy2:

They are 225 40 R18.

5k?  I had them on a 2003 325i, and they were very good  :driver:

Certainly got more than 5k out of them  :surprised:

They certainly didn't like the stage 1 power!!  To be fair on them though, I had to change the rears due to saw toothing, a common problem on the Octy.  When the Kumho's went on I had 4 wheel laser alignment done, and touch wood everything seems good.   :happy2:

It has to be Michelin Pilot Sports, from my experience nothing comes close.......
They are unfortunately expensive but the grip, minimal noise and mileage are worth the extra.

Vredestein Ultrac Ssesanta's..Nice looking tyre and does nearly as good a job as the PS3's, but for alot less.

Reasonable price, great quality all round tyre for the money.. Popular choice on the GTi in these parts

Camskill again is the best place to purchase.  :happy2:

You get what you pay for. Auto express did a test on tyres this week with a mk6 gti with 17" Monzas and Michelin's came second to Good Year. I've just bought 2 Michelin PS 3 for the front of my GTI. A bit more expensive but will last you longer and don't forget safety first! Check Camskill out for tyres on the web!  :happy2:

Thanks all.  Great info.

Mich PS3s are my top choice having used them on my previous S3.

Will have a look at the Vredesteins as well  :happy2:
