What are your thought about this?

I bought this trolley jack the other day with the intention on doing the 'S3 jacking points' mod to make life easy for changing the wheels.

Clarke CTJ2Q 2-tonne quick lift trolley jack.



What are your thoughts about just using the standard jacking points on the sills as they fit very nicely into the 'cup' of this trolley jack?  It's only going to be for removing wheels for cleaning or for swapping to winter wheels, etc..  I've seen posts about using things like an adapted ice hockey puck but as this trolley jack fits neatly onto the sills with no chance of slipping off, should I be OK? I've also got some axle stands somewhere that I can use for anything more involved..



What do we think?  

There may be an unused set of S3 jacking bits in the 'for sale' section soon..

I use one of these:

with a slotted ice hockey puck between it and the sill, to protect the sill.

You could probably do something similar.

Cheers for that - but is there really need for a 'pad' with this particular jack as it has a small saddle (cup) with high sides?  I can understand on the bigger trolley jacks which have bigger, flatter saddles.  This one is only 60mm diameter so nothing biggish could even fit in it!

The only downside I can see, is if I didn't put the saddle centrally under the sill but I don't think would really cause a problem either..

Any more opinions please?

I've used a trolly jack like the one you have without a pad or anything and i've never had a problem and if you use axle stands its only going to be on the jack for a minute or so, no damage to my sills
