Adding 3.5mm jack AUX to MFD2
« on: September 22, 2011, 09:17:49 am »
Right.. Had a quick search but there didnt seem to be an answer.

Ive got the MFD2 with a 6cd changer. Currently the CD changer is unplugged as there is a Bury CC9060 bluetooth handsfree kit connected but I'm not sure its installed correctly as I could barely hear the phone in a call and they couldnt hear me and the bluetooth music function doesnt work either (although I'm not sure what function on the MFD2 i need to use to get the music to work... or if the music should just cut in?

Anyway.. i dont NEED the handsfree so I want to remove it and put the cd changer back and then just get a simple 3.5mm jack lead to plug into the iphone that then plays when i select AUX on the MFD2

Is that possible? to have the cd changer and the Aux jack lead?

Thanks in advance.

Yes it is possible. The MFD2 has a dedicated AUX connector.

To my knowledge yes. They have separate ports on the rear of the unit.

just to update... I got this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-MFD2-RNS2-IPOD-IPHONE-AUX-LINE-CHARGER-ADAPTER-/260699701739?pt=UK_MP3_Player_Accessories_FM_Transmitters&hash=item3cb2e9c1eb#ht_2697wt_1137

Fitted it yesterday. The cd changer still works. This fits into its own socket. There is a tiny bit of alternator whine when the track goes really really quiet but you only just notice it.. might look at seeing if i can solver that some time but for now it works great and charges my iphone4.

The audio level is a bit lower than a cd but just turn the headunit up a couple of notches and its all good.

Did you secure the ground cable? It shouldn't whine.

its grounded to the back of the head unit. there is a long threaded bolt shaft coming off the back.. I tested to see if it was grounded and it made a circuit with my circuit tester so connected it up and sure enough the charge feed works fine.

I've already got a switched live behind the headunit so I just used that and then found an earth. You can get a switched live from the fuse box.
