RNS510 Install noob question
« on: November 15, 2011, 01:43:18 pm »
With the money we saved on the GT TDi we want to replace the RCD300 with the RCD510 but after seeing some posts about battery drain i was hoping someone could tell me exactly what I need to support it in my 04 GT TDi.

I know I need a canbus and maybe a new bluetooth thing but I might aswell be speaking french to myself these mean nothing  :jumpmove:

There are a few going on eBay for cheap so might buy one unless someone knows otherwise?

Anyone selling one on here?

Just a new CANbus buddy.

Its all about the letter at the end of the CANbus.....had to do mine. I think my canbus ends with like 'AB' or something.

Someone will come along shortly and advise you which ones are best for your model....

Look for Eddie-NL < ace guy and always has stuff like this for sale.

Cheers Johhny, and I take it you can plug your iPod/iPhone into the front via aux cable?

The RNS510 seems alot more expensive than the RCD510, how much should I expect to pay on eBay you think?

depends what revsion you want?  look for LED backlit screen and see the price go up.  the newest 510 have a 40gb hard drive and cost more again.

your first mission sounds like the gateway  :signLOL:

RNS510 B < Standard screen can average 450

RNS510 C < backlit screen 500-530

Maybe corrected......but this is what they were like when I was looking.

and battery drain < CANbus/gateway - you will need a newer/later version one, but the right one don't buy any. But up your
car details and someone will advise on the one to look out for.

WARNING < 04 GT TDI the right parts can be like rocking horse pooooo!! I know, cost me a fortune!!  :sad1:

As said ask Eddie, may have one (top bloke)

Hmm yeah the RNS seems a little expensive for now, think I will go with the RCD as sat nav is not important.

Does this seem like a good deal? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160679672290?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_600wt_1081

Also which one is Eddie? I should really make sure I can get the right components before I buy this  :happy2:

I'd say the average price for an RCD510 on ebay would be between 250 and 350... I just won a 6 month old one for £275  :happy2:

Why don't you go down the route I did and get the RNS310?

I haven't upgraded my canbus on my 05 gti and had this in nearly a year now.

Cheap too at £280 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-Passat-Golf-2011-Satnav-Complete-RNS-310-/250925782665?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3a6c579689

Includes

Sat Nav
Touch Screen
SD Card
Traffic Update
MP3

Everything the 510 has apart from a built in HDD

Let me know I have one so can answer most questions on it!
