Any ideas? Misfire?
« on: September 22, 2011, 10:37:02 am »
Since my remap I've thought a few times that the car has been running a bit odd. Just now, slight incline, 30mph, 5th gear, 1500rpm & the engine seemed to be behaving strangely. The revs dropped slightly then came back. This happened all the way up the hill. If I put my foot down it runs fine and only does this occasionally. The other times have been less obvious.

Any ideas?

Random misfires are often a sign of a coilpack on the way out. Best to check (VAGcom log thingy) before it fails totally and potentially does damage.

Remapped 2.0T FSI engined cars should ideally have their plugs renewed every 10k miles.

Someone else will chip in re what else it could be.

Then the next question might be which remap?

Someone who can laptop log would doubtless be able to help more than me.

R Tech stage 1. I'll see if I can find a member with VCDS close to me (Bristol)

The R-Tech guy is normally very caring and helpful. But VCDS best starting point. Possibly a setting on the map but I'm guessing wildly.

I know Nick will be more than happy to have a look for me, and I'm not suggesting it's the remap either as I've only heard positive things about them. I reckon the remap has possibly exposed a weakness somewhere, although my mechanical knowledge is zero.

Is it running a bit lumpy at idle? PCV maybe?

Idle seems fine. New PCV fitted at same time as remap, although that could be the issue. It makes some squeaks, which I think is caused by air in the PCV,

Don't exclude a new faulty coil pack as one member on here found out...

Sick of this myself every 3-5k miles now, need a health check to see if there's an underlying problem

Started off very slight when accelerating in 4,5 or 6th as if lost power for a fraction. 100 mikes later it was a prominent stutter. Switched to stock map to get to garage for new plugs

Hmm maybe it's not the same thing. Mines very intermittent. I wonder if it's the DSG hesitating on a change?
