Intake Growl
« on: September 22, 2011, 08:54:43 pm »
I've fitted the Dbilas to my otherwise standard engine setup k03 GTI. I recently changed the actual intake part for a Pipercross cone filter after being impressed with Dave @ PDT's setup.

It sounds different with more wooshes and bolder chatter than the OEM intake.

This is all very well and I know fits the profile of a Turbo'ed car, although, I'm not a big fan in all honesty of OTT turbo acoustics and while I love the performance rewards of a turbo'ed petrol engine, I wanted just an enhanced acceleration sound from the engines heavy breaths.

The best way I can describe what I'm looking for is a raw inducted sound, very like the old Simota air boxes. (Example:
) I of course appreciate the example vehicle is a non turbo car with an injected fuel delivery.

What I'm looking for is probably quite niche and having whored' around youtube looking at UK, EU and US intakes and CAF's for the GTI it seems I probably won't find that sound for the TFSI, but thought I'd ask to ensure once and for all  :happy2:

Thanks.
Pete

Think Bmc do a similar set up. Enclosed. Will reduce noise and chatter I'd imagine.

That stage 2(or 2nd gen) ITG makes so much more sense that the old 'open in the engine bay' design. Cold air directly into the intake :-)

Any videos of the later ITG so I can get a rough idea?

It probably doesn't help that I'm running an OEM exhaust, but that inducted sound on acceleration is so easy to come by on aspirated/injected petrol cars and I'm curious to replicate it to fit my cars motorsporty image  :innocent:

Nowhere near as motorsporty as Steve's red machine of course
Pete

It's an atrocious quality video, but looks like Simota did one for the 1.8T MK4. You can still hear the inducted sound as the air is brought thorugh - in a nutshell, that's what I'm looking for from the acoustics. If that turbo valves are quiet, that's a bonus (like this one, sort of.)

All the many intakes I've heard for the Mk5 sound quite flat IMO on hard acceleration in terms of a throaty sound, without that inducted 'grunt' at higher revs.
Is there anything that sounds similar to the Simota for the 2.0T?
Pete
