Some info I've just come across.

... This is a brief précis of the VW UK Service Action 23H9 regarding Piezo pump injectors.

The repair instructions are contained in Technical Product Information (TPI) transaction number 2027647

This applies to 2.0TDI PD Golf, Passat, and Touran with PD Piezo Injectors

There are approximately 78,800 (model years 2006 – 2010) affected vehicles in the UK.

Owners will receive communications from Volkswagen UK on a phased basis.

The following vehicles with the engine codes listed are affected.

Passat 3C 2006-2008 with the BKP, BMA, BWV, BVE, BKP, BVE, BMA, BWV, BMR, and BUZ engines

Golf 5 2006-2009 with the BMN engine

Touran 2006-2010 with the BMN engine

Technical background

On some vehicles with the 2.0l TDI engine, deposits can settle on the Piezo pump injector elements because of dirty engine oil. This can lead to running problems. Not all vehicles are affected by this campaign! On the affected vehicles the Piezo pump injector elements must be checked and if necessary replaced. Please make sure that on the affected vehicle the check and repair of all open campaigns/measures are performed during the workshop visit.

Parts to be fitted as part of this campaign.

1x Campaign 23H9 sticker 000 010 006 1x Wiring loom adapter 03G 971 033 M 4x Adjustment screw WHT 000 530 5x M8x58 socket head bolt N 105 811 01 8x M6x88 socket head bolt 03G 103 385 A 4x Pump injectors

If the vehicle is listed in the system as not completed, check whether a campaign sticker with the entry "23H9 date/stamp" is attached in the spare wheel well area (next to data sticker):If the campaign sticker is attached, the campaign has already been performed. Make the entry “23H9 date/stamp” in the service schedule under “Space for workshop entries”.

If the campaign sticker with entry "23H9" is not fitted, carry out the work according to the repair instructions.

Identifying the potentially faulty injectors.

Remove cam cover and check the part number –see arrow- on the pump injector element. All pump injector elements with the part number 03G 130 073 D or 03G 130 073 M must be replaced. All other pump injector elements are correct and must not be replaced.

Spoke to VWCS earlier, who confirmed my car is one that needs looking at, and told me to contact my local dealer.

Rang VW Worthing, and it's booked in for tues. They reckon it's a 5hr job so will need it all day.

So we'll see how we get on!

Has anyone managed to get a 'good will' payment yet?

Cheers

It gets worse!!

Just drove it 5 miles from work and out the car we get and my wife screams smokes coming from the engine department,I lived the bonnet and it seems its burning oil.
Had a look with a torch as it was dark and could see oil burning off the exhaust and thought here we go again!

Gonna wait till morning and go for a run to see if there is a leak that the car didn't have before it went in to the stealers! :fighting: :fighting: :fighting:

Sounds like your having an absolute nightmare of a time. Think I'd be tempted to make a formal complaint.

My dealer argued but were told to change the injectors at 1400. 16.30 they called to say it was ready.  Bristol told me they had a pallet of injectors out the back ready to go

Volkswagen now appear to be acknowledging the problem, as I have just received a recall notice for our 56 plate. I called our local franchised dealer where it has been serviced from new, they automatically ordered new injectors, and booked the car in next week to have them replaced.

How do they go about sending out the recall notices? ie, where do they get the address details from? Is it from the dvla? Just wondering if one was sent out would I or the previous owner would receive it.

Abit of an update from my end. I rang and spoke to VWCS last week in connection with this to see if my car should be in for the recall. I was informed my car is imported which I knew anyway. It's a Motorpoint car. But I said I couldn't see how this should make a difference. Anyway they there were no outstanding recalls for my car and that the injector recall was for UK cars only.

He put the case through and was expecting a phone call end of last week which never came. So rang up today to chase them expecting a fight. I asked what the status of this was and was put on hold. When he came back was was again told that my car does not fall into the recall group as its a dutch import. So my reply to that was its on UK plates, its taxed and insured in the UK, serviced by VW in the UK and driven by myself who has only lived in the UK. He then tried to fob me off saying that my engine might have different injectors fitted. Now I know enough from ready on forums like this to not have the wool pulled over my eyes like that. So basically he said to wait till the end of the week to see what the decision would be. I agreed and said I would be doing some investigating myself.

So as soon as I came off the phone I rang VOSA to see where I stood. They are well well aware of the issue and have had people from across Europe contacting them. I told them what had happened and the guy who had been on the case since day 1 was on the phone to VW when I rang. At this time I'm still on the phone to VOSA and my mobile rings. It's the person I've just spoke to at VWCS and his tune had changed completely. He went on to tell me that they would do my car for free and gave me a point of contact at my local VW garage.

I rang them and spoke to them and they knew all about it and is now booked in for Thursday. Now I don't know if it was a coincidence or not but it seemed very strange to be getting nowhere with it and then get a call 10 mins later whilst still on the phone to VOSA. We shall see what happens after Thursday. Watch this space.

Oh and well done if you got this far lol.  :drinking:

I thought it was worth posting a positive experience for a change ....  :congrats:

Liverpool Volkswagen.   I've been using them for 10ish years.

I booked my '07 GT TDI 170 DSG for a service yesterday. DSG oil change & Major Service @ 86000 miles.  They agreed to get it in today.  No mention of factory recall on the injectors.  I dropped it off at 8am, agreed to collect at 6pm.  Fresh filter coffee while I waited for my lift to work.  It's the little things, right?

No phone calls during the day.  No fuss, no hassle.  I turned up at 6pm and while paying the bill (just over £400 btw, I got a loyalty discount!), the chap happened to mention that they'd done the factory recall on the injectors.

Reading this thread, I realise what a positive experience i've had.

I'll post results ... good and bad!

After speaking with BillyMac last night I thought I better investigate if my GT Sport 170 which I bought back in November was part of this faulty batch.

Called VW cust services, registered myself as the currect owner & asked if there was any outstanding issues with my car. Very friendly & helpful girl called Katie advised that my car was affected by the 'Piezo' injector issue & if it had been suffering from poor mpg (36-39) or struggling to start occasionally (which it has) then it was definately affected. She stated that as part of the VW goodwill campaign this would be checked & repaired free of charge & referred me to my local garage. She then called Verve Wishaw to provide authorisation.

My car is booked in with them on the 20th February so will let you all know how I get on.
