VW Golf GT TDi 170 PD - Piezo Injectors - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
« on: September 23, 2011, 10:05:48 am »
After recieving some invaluable information from this forum this week I have sorted my issues and thought i should share with you lot.

Anyway, if you are unaware there are issues with the injectors on the mk5 gt tdi 170 and the passat 140 PD, the issue is the injectors are faulty and they fail anytime, when they do it's scary, the engine completely shuts down and you loose the steering etc.

Other than the danger, the cost is ridiculous.  I had one done and it cost me £950 at an indepandent dealer, VW would want over £1100 i'm sure!  Usually when the injector goes the wiring harness goes too adding to the cost.

VW are aware of the issue but are NOT recalling the cars affected, instead they are sorting issues that come to them, don't go to your dealer, some are unaware of the issues, ring customer services, the number is 0800 0833 920, have your chassis number ready etc and they will bring up your details.

Explain the issues and they will ask you to book your car in at your dealer, they will then replace the intectors free of charge.

I managed to get the other 3 faulty injectors sorted and i'm getting refunded the money i spent getting the other one done too.

Hope this helps

Should be nice and easy for the search function too!

Thanks

Daz

I've got a gt 170 and up to now I've had no problems, but do I wait and see if something happens or try and sort it out before it does??
What do you think??

Very good if you to share your experience and tips with this one Daz  :happy2:
Certainly opened my eyes. Cheers.

Do you know if the same age A3's suffered as I was under the illusion they shared the MK5 engine blocks? (8P shape)

Pete its every thing that basically has the piezo crystal injectors, A3, Golf, Passat, Touran, A4, A6...Only thing is on other VAG group cars it like the Passat and Superb they are in the 140 BKD and 170 BMN engines.

Did your local VW dealer charge you for the check?  I have contacted my local dealer having rang customer services and they wanted to charge me £60 for the check having told me it is highly likely mine are faulty!

VW dealers should not charge you a penny and if they try :fighting: ring the VWCS from there phone and tell the operator that the dealer is trying to charge you to inspect the car :booty:

Basically the dealer should order the parts in and change the injectors no questions asked Customer Service will then sort the warranty payment out with the dealer not you :happy2:

About 4 months ago my GF's 170 TDI Touran had a failed injector. Car just ground to a stop in the middle of the road....very dangerous, especially as she does motorway runs twice a week or is back and forth with the kids.
After much discussion with VW Customer services they replaced the faulty injector but a week later another injector went.
This time she requested that rest were changed because of the dangers of another one going, which they agreed to do along with the wiring loom.
The day she went to pick the car up they called to say it wouldnt start. After another week of them scratching their heads it turned out the original injector they changed was faulty. They changed that and its been ok since.
Previous to that the Abs pump had to be changed which vw paid for (another common issue on diesels) .Her Touran was out of warranty when both of these issues arose and on about 70000 miles but as it had full history, was less than 4 years old and under 100,000 miles (and she backed up the fact that these were both common occurances on these engines) they coughed up and paid for the repairs. Luckily....
