I have the 5th off. My boss plans to go to the apple store and wants me to tag along.  :scared:

Has the iPhone ever been available the day after they have announced the new version or has there always been a delay ?

Dunno. I've never bothered waiting. Just ordered from O2 when there was availability.

Usually a couple of week but likely you could pre-order one.

We expecting simliar pricing then - £500 for the 16GB version and going up from there?

I'd hold your horses, I really can't see it being anything more than a 3GS-like update. Rumours suggest it almost certainly has the same case design.

Not a chance. Plenty of new cases designed featuring a new form factor. The iPhone 4S is looking like it will just be the lower end phone, with a larger form factor iPhone 5 replacing the top phone line up.  Also, Al Gore has let slip that there are new "iPhones" pl, being released.

Apple would be completely dropping the ball if they only release a minor upgrade after nearly 18 months from their last release.

Maybe, but history suggests a major update occurs every 2 years. Still, it wouldn't surprise me, particularly after the problems with the 4. A larger form factor though? That's just moving backwards imo

Everyone is screaming out for a larger screen size of 4"+. I know Apple normally does what it wants, rather than what the consumers want, but it appears they realise they will lose major ground, as all the other phone manufacturers are making some beautiful displays with 4"+ LED backlit screens. 3.5" really is too small now, and if Apple are clever reducing bezel sizes considerably, they will have a phone with a larger screen without sacrificing too much in the terms of size of the device.

Plenty of case manufacturers have gambled on this, and leaked CAD drawings, designing cases ready for launch.

There is no point Apple releasing just an iPhone 4S. I gamble on the 4S being the new budget phone, with A5 CPU and 8GB storage only.

Think about it, why would their naming conventions go like this:

iPhone - 1st Generation 2007
iPhone 3G - 2nd Generation 2008
iPhone 3Gs - 3rd Generation 2009
iPhone 4 - 4th Generation 2010
iPhone 4S - 5th Generation 2011
iPhone 5 - 6th Generation 2013 (possibly with current hardware schedule)
iPhone 5S - 7th Generation Late 2014

Its more likely in my opinion, that the naming conventions will be kept like this for the near future:

iPhone - 1st Generation 2007
iPhone 3G - 2nd Generation 2008
iPhone 3Gs - 3rd Generation 2009
iPhone 4 - 4th Generation 2010
iPhone 5 - 5th Generation 2011 (iPhone 4S new updated iPhone 4 budget model)
iPhone 6 - 6th Generation 2013 (iPhone 5S new updated iPhone 5 budget model)
iPhone 7 - 7th Generation Late 2014 (iPhone 6S new updated iPhone 6 budget model)

Of course, its all speculation. All will be revealed in just over 1 week.  :happy2:

I guess in reality 4 phones isn't really enough to go on when predicting naming conventions. Either way I'd certainly not be interested in a phone any larger than the 4. I already think it's a bit bulky. Make it the size of the current Touch and we'd be talking!

New form factor should be slimmer and teardrop if rumours are to be believed. Think of it as an iPad 2 (which is thinner than the iPhone 4) except, not as long/wide.

This is my favourite rendering of what the new model "could" look like:

I also really like this one:

Either way, if its just a 4S, no way would i be interested. iPhone 5, yes please.

Also, a news story linking to limited supplies of screens due to manufacturing difficulties from some of the suppliers of larger screens:

http://www.mactrast.com/2011/09/iphone-5-shipments-delayed-due-to-touch-panel-issues/

Also tonnes of new cases have been made:
