RNS 510 GPS problems
« on: October 13, 2011, 06:06:24 pm »
Have been running Josi 2720 firmware with V7 maps for a long time now(since V7 came out), with no problems at all. but since returning from a holiday and the car not being used for 3 weeks, the GPS seems to be miles off. I've rebooted unit but it still struggles to know where i am.
Could the GPS Antenna be faulty or do you guys have any other ideas i can try.
Thanks in advance

Does the HU download GPS corrections, like you can do with TomTom? My TomTom used to do this alot.

When in map mode, press map button again to bring up the extra window. Select gps viewer and it willywll you how many satellites it has locked on to. Needs a minimum of 5 I think for a good lock on. Once it's found them, it should save them.

Does occasionally happen so not to worry.

The satellites move in relation to the earth, and so they occupy different parts of the sky over time. If the unit hasn't been used for a while, it will not look in the right part of the sky to find the satellites quickly. Tom Tom units download a 'quick fix' once a week to overcome this.

Don't worry, the unit will, once it's had a good look at the sky & found enough GPS birds, will be back to quickly fixing position again.

I took a drive for over an hour and it could not locate, and the past week it still has not rectified the issue.
I hope you guys are right, thanks for the replies :happy2:

Still taking ages to find itself, been using the car regularly for 3 weeks now, it used to be virtually instant , but now can take at least 20 mins to nearly an hour, which really isn't much good, would it be worth getting another GPS receiver(do they go wrong), or re-install firmware or maps?

How many satellites does it see initially?

it varies from 0/12 1/9 then it can get 5/9 and then loose the signal. i just can't see why it can go so wrong when it was working perfect for months.

Might be the GPS antenna in that case. Once mine has more than 5 satellites, it's locked on and stays locked on.

Look for a FAKRA connection one for the replacement.
