Steering Wheel Vibration under load / acceleration?
« on: September 19, 2011, 10:15:09 pm »
Any ideas at what would cause this? tends to be in the higher gears...5th is worse than 4th! It's become more noticeable since wheel rotation front to back at weekend.

Wheels need rebalancing? (never been happy with them since tyre change in May tbh)

Engine Mounts? (20k miles...could they be shot??)

Any thing else?

Cheers!  :happy2:

Is it around 80mph?  I would say if its happened after swapping wheels around then its balancing like rich says.

yeah around that i'd say...

it was light before hand so left it...but now with rears on fronts (6k miles) it vibrates way too much for my liking!

ok will get it re balanced asap at a place i can trust!

Cheers chaps.

It was happening on mine lee, booting it between 60-80 caused loads of vibration. Turns out that i had knocked the weights of with a pressure washer.

I'm loving it since upgrading to the AP's Rich. The gave me soo much more confidence at combe to dunk it inside TTRS's  :driver: :signLOL:

Car is great otherwise. Had brake fluid changed and wheel rotation at weekend.

I'm thinking about a full set of VWR Engine Mounts next.

Don't really fancy anymore suspension mods but was tempted by the SuperPro bush mount thing that SteveP did on the Mk6.

But really the car is just how i want it. Need to save for a clutch next tho...it's not gonna last much longer i think.  :sad1:

Heading to an old friends business in Daventry on Monday to use their new tyre balancing machine and free go on their brand new 4 wheel alignment rig!  :signLOL:

So will see if that fixes the vibe.

Thanks for the advice chaps.  :happy2:

UPDATE:

well, what can i say....all 4 bloody wheels were wayyyyyyyyyyyy out of balance! fronts were 70/65g off..rears not as bad but still out by over 30g (they were on the front)

what bloody muppets at the tyre place. Can be sure I'm using another branch next time, and may even go back to Daventry to have it rebalanced by RSD.  most impressed by their balancing machine..it tells u exactly where to put the weights on the inside of the rim!!!

Vibration totally gone now.

Danny also got his Supertracker alignment gizmo on the car...and it's spot on. It was aligned by TT Shop in May so it should still be straight. So no probs there.
