Xenons worth it
« on: September 28, 2011, 11:16:12 am »
Are xenon's really worth it? im looking to buy my first mk5 gti. Im after DSG and xenons preferably but struggle to find one with both. There are plenty with DSG on its own.

Are they really worth the extra hassle and cost to find one with them on. Ive only seen two on autotrader and they sold within a day. Driving me nuts now. Should i just forget about the xenons

Both of my GTI's have had Xenons and I wouldn't want anything else now, they are very good!

Well i was hoping you were going to say they were terrible. My brother has them on his 3 Series and there not up to much.

Got 3 people viewing my car this weekend so trying to find one quick but seems like im going to have a hard task to get one.

Xenons can be retro fitted but its not a cheap exercise!

Yes ive read up a little about it. Think im just going to have to hold out for one with both DSG and xenons. Im not a fan of HID's

I have 5000k HIDs fitted in my vRS and they are whiter, and brighter than OE 4300k.

Personally OE xenons will be top of my list when I am looking for a new car, the difference is literally night and day (if you'll pardon the pun?) Imho.

Defo get a GTI with them, they transform the look of the car IMO. Also look very cool when they come on from the unlock button of the remote central locking. Think u need luxury pack for that

there's another thread on this forum about Hella aftermarket OEM clusters that are about £300 and, with the addition of OSRAM night breaker bulbs apparently perform just as well as the Xenons. Hella even make the OEM Xenon clusters so they look identical and are OEM quality.

if it were me i'd get a DSG and get some of those instead. selling your black GTI headlights on will even recoup most of the cost so for me it's a bit of a no brainer.

Standard on all GTIs. Works with the light and rain sensor.

The xenons on the MK5 are great, you have a diaphram for dipped and main beam and they also use the halogen main beam that all golfs have, so you have two main beam bulbs, its like driving around with day light it allows you to see so far ahead at night that its like day time driving really great, and the white light on dipped beams reduce the amount of eye strain.

If you get a non xenon car then try and get one with the winter pack as that will at least give you the headlight washer which will make a retro fit easier, just the headlights and the auto-leveling then for a full install.

Wow thanks for that Darren

the first one i love and have called up about but it sold within 2 days. I like 5 doors but hmm I just cant do it.
There was a white one also that was on there for two days 05 plate with 32k dsg xenons but sold really quick.

Also my max max budget is 9k which is going to be a push sadly. I really hope i can find one i think its going to be a case of get lucky when a mint one comes up.

Finding the right spec on a used car is a nightmare, list options in priority of importance for you, then see what are must have's and can live without. As mark has said, they can be retro-fitted, but it adds up trying to add them all  :signLOL:
