Changing Head Unit
« on: September 28, 2011, 11:43:56 am »
Hi all,

I have a Pioneer double din dvd head unit from my old car, I want to fit it in my gti.  I have ordered a fitting kit with a fascia panel, iso adaptor lead and an aerial adaptor.  Do I need anything else to fit the HU?  Do I need a cage or anything?  My last car was a Celica and I was able to use the original brackets to fit the pioneer but I haven't removed my original radio yet so don't know what to expect.

Thanks,

Davy.

I have just done mine and it was a funking nightmare! You will need a cage to make it easier, also you will need to tap in somewhere for a switched live. I used the live feed going to the back of the climate panel. Don't forget to take any cd's out of the changer if you have one!

thanks for the reply!  I received my fitting kit but the fascia panel opening is far too big for the head unit, did you have this problem? Where did you get yours?  also what cage did you get, iv found universal 1s but theres 2 different sizes? (1 being 10mm shorter for a fascia).
Is it possible to fit it without the cage?  sorry for all the questions!! lol

I bought it from halfords, what I actually bought was a double to single adapter fascia and took the middle dividing bar out then attached the supplied head unit surround to the new fascia. I personally didn't get the one with a cage but wish I had because it took some fiddling to stop it from dropping at the back. I took my car and head unit to halfords, and tried it basically. I hope that helps, I can take photos if it helps
