Car going back to dealer
« on: September 28, 2011, 07:58:54 pm »
I for one am glad that cars come with warrantys lol
Had the car since Saturday and done 200 miles (school runs mostly lol)

Back brakes are squeaking like mad, air con does not work and the engine sounds like a diesel at idle :s (bit worried about that last one)

I understand the brakes will just be a matter of some copper grease, However when I called in today about the air con, I was expecting them to say "oh it will probably need regassing" however the lady looked a bit nervous and said "Humm that could be serious, no one can look at it now, you better book it in for the garage to look at"

This leads me to believe the rattling could be compressor related and also that they knew there was a problem but wernt expecting me to press the econ button due to time of year.... or perhaps I'm paranoid and all will be fine tomorrow :)

The GTI is known to sounds like a diesel especially on start up, due to the way the engine works. The question is, is it excessively so?

Aircon - known compressor fault and should be done under warranty.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

From what I read, people get this diesel sound more often if they use just normal 95 RON unleaded as supposed to 99 RON super.

As has been said already, the gti engine can be a bit 'diesely' on tickover due to the direct injection system,
Squeaky rear brakes, take it for a blast and give them a good workout, probably just noisy pads..
As for the air con, if you pressed the 'econ' button you turned it off..

The deiseling is not attractive..... That's one thing I truly dislike about the GTi, it sounds sweet enough on the run, but hardly sweet at idle

Sorry your not having much luck. I would feel the same if I had only done 200 miles, you shouldnt need to brake hard to remove brake squeeks !

I never have luck with vag cars!
mk1 Leon tdi -popped
Mk1 octavia tdi -check engine warning and weird sound
Mk2 octavia tdi -clutch
Touran tdi -wouldn't idle and dealer bought it back off us

Currently have the golf and a Mitsubishi outlander which has the 140hp vag pd engine .... Will I ever learn?

Aircon does not work, I know how the econ button works :) but I'm sure many have made the mistake...
Squeaky brakes... They can copper grease them
Rattling at idle? I hope it's standard lol

My eddy sounded like a diesel sowing machine at idle and VW said it was ok, but I was not happy. When I had the cambelt changed I also got the alternator belts (ones a v belt I think) and this has made a massive difference and it now sounds fine, although the miltek cat back was needed as well

Haha yes just stick a nice exhaust on it and drown out the rattle.
