Hertz DSK165 - What Next?
« on: October 01, 2011, 09:07:16 pm »
Running Hertz DSK 165 2 way components in the front - have been for a while.
I purchased an alpine SWE-1000 but haven't got it live yet, due to it being a pig to fit with the RNS510.

Question is, I want to improve the low end and mid range bass. Forgetting the sub/amp, could I move the DSK165's to the rear (replacing the OEM rear speakers) then replace the front slots with something - the question being which components to compliment the DSK's?

Budget is probably £250 realistically.

Thanks
Pete

you need to sound proof what ever speakers you decide to put in the front doors, so include this into the budget.

Approx £60 worth of proofing would be sufficient. When we install speakers at the shop £60 covers most doors completely. It's 12 sheets in total so 6 per door. This will increase the mid-bass dramatically and allow the speaker to perform much closer to its true peak performance in both clarity and power.

The Focal Access 3-way are good for the money but I would spend a little extra and go for the Hertz High-Energy. Either speaker sets really will only perform to potential if you power them properly using an aftermarket amplifier.

The JL AUDIO XD amps and the Alpine PDX Amps are great because they fit under the seats perfectly and have oodles of power combined with fantastic quality.

Regards

Steve

Is the sound deadening easy to remove Steve i.e. to revert back to factory speaker/door setup?

How much does it weigh too?
If want to avoid amping' the speakers too as the purpose to buying these components is to avoid installing a sub/amp (despite the fact I've one already in the boot, un-wired).

Can I move the front DSK's to the rear slots - will they fit? Ta  :happy2:

Rainbow Deluxe - SLX265 Components.. got these in my front doors and they sound amazing... Bargain at £150!!

My cars setup for Steetbass, and ive gone through many sets of components.. to be honest.. to get the best out of any Components they NEED to be amped!

and again... Sound deadening makes a MASSIVE difference!
If you're having Audio problems i feel bad for ya son... I've got 99 problems but Bass aint one!

As stated by the above poster. Great speakers. They do make a 3 way version too for near direct fitment in our cars.
Or Rainbow make a direct replacement kit for our cars too with a 8" midbass driver.

Otherwise if you like the hertz, then next step would be some HSK163.4's.

Thanks fella.

Do you have a link to the Rainbow setup with the midbass driver? Sounds like the complete article and as I'm likely to purchase a Golf platform car next too, it would make long term sense for me  :happy2:

Will try and find it,

But the model from memory for direct replacement kit is Rainbow IQ 320.25 or maybe IQ 320.15

Hope this helps

Thanks chief - it does  :happy2:

I wasn't aware there was a complete retrofit component kit that you can fit.
I expect these won't be anywhere near as good without sound deadening in the doors etc?

they will sound good, But they truely come alive as soon as the whole door has been treated to some sound deadening. Don't for get the panels too. as they often vibrate.
