BCS R32 Cat Back Exhaust on GTI
« on: October 03, 2011, 05:17:05 pm »
Well the day has arrived to set of on a 211 mile trip from Somerset to BCS Automotive in St Helens to have the cat back R32 rear end made. Have heard good things about BCS and did not like the Miltek because of the way the rear silencer hangs down below the bumper.
Anyway, up before dawn (not the name of my partner) and on the road by 06:30 with a nonstop trip and arrival at 09:30, an hour earlier than the arranged time. Had to wait around for Dave to finish the Rover exhaust he was completing but was made welcome and the coffee was flowing (always good). Was about 11:45 before Dave got to my car and went through what I wanted from the exhaust. Told him I want it quiet on the motorway but nice and loud when giving it some. Dave went through some tail pipe designs but we came to the same conclusion with this and they can be seen it the photos below. I had fitted the R32 lower valance on Wednesday so it was a simple task for Dave to remove the old exhaust and fit the lower black trim piece.
As this was the car been used as the pattern for the exhaust so that BCS can produce the system for resale in the not too distant future.
As Dave was fitting the Exhaust to the car Nigel turned up to take some photos, just as well as I forgot to take my camera, good to meet you Nigel.
Was approximately 17:15 before Dave had finished as he had to make all the jigs for the exhaust to be made from.
When started for the first time all I can say is WOW, what a noise, Dave backs the car out of the workshop and took it for a spin around the block to warm it up before proceeding to give it some up and down the road, the way the DSG changes gear is amazing with the pop that follows. Dave then proceeded to check that all the gaps around the tail pipe exits were correct before I paid the bill and was on my way home with the old exhaust in the back with the seats folded.
Now for the shock, on driving down the road the noise while good there was no way I was going to get it past SWMBO so it was a quick turnaround and back to see Dave. Dave could not understand why it was so noisy so jumped in the car and we went for a drive. The noise was put down to the rear seats been folded down as he said he would not have let me have the car back without giving me what I had asked for. One quick removal of the old exhaust and the back seats in the proper position and what a difference, you would have thought it was a different car. So mind a rest and the old exhaust back in the boot I began the journey home.
The exhaust has only been on for 2 days but the way it sounds is amazing, along with the look I was after.

Hi Stephen, where is it possible to buy the lower R32 valance from and does it fit straight onto a ED30 bumper?

In 2 minds as to go for standard or R32 style.

I bought mine from downhillbruiser21 in the for sale section, this is the picture I was sent when it was removed, so no complaints about the quality or finish. It was a genuine VW lower valance that was painted 3 weeks before.

It will fit straight onto the upper section, fitting guide here.

Hope this helps.  :happy2:

Depends on what you can get the R32 rear for, seem to be about £250 to £300 on the bay + the cost of whatever exhaust system you fit. So I would say between £700 and £900 all fitted.   :scared:
