Winter Tyres
« on: October 03, 2011, 11:08:05 pm »
What winter tyres would you suggest? I'd like a balance between price and performance!

Also, for those who normally do change tyres for winter, do you need to have anything else done apart from having the tyres fitted?

There's been a billion threads on this both this year and last year. A search will reveal what you're looking for.

All I will say is, they will be on the car for a similar length of time as your standard summer wheels, therefore use the same philosophy when buying winter tyres as you do when buying your summer boots.  :happy2:

I'd had good experience with Vredstein Snowtrac and Wintrac Extreme. I'd go for the Wintracs of the two as they are a bit more performance oriented.

I've just bought a set of Kumho iZen KW27's for my 17" winter wheels, based on good reviews..paid £390 for the four tyres so hoping for good results if and when the white stuff starts falling, or at least the minus temperatures!

Im looking for some at the mo ,and have looked at the bridgestone blizzak and fulda kristal montero 3. will go for the fulda i think as it has decent reviews and out performs some of the more expensive  tyres . mine are going on a set of 15"tdi steels and are £57 each inc p&p

I think any snow tyre will make a vast improvement over a summer tyre when snow has fallen! I ran lassa snoways on the anni for last few years.

Cheers guys. I'm looking at maybe steel wheels and winter tyres.

On Mytyres.co.uk they do steel wheel packages - the Fulda Montero 3's are £130 and the Vredestein Wintrac's are £160. It seems pretty good value but I was hoping to spend around £100 per corner... :scared:

I'm after some of these.... but can't find them at a price as keen as that! Would you mind sharing your source?

To be fair you would find it difficult finding 16"s at that price

As per pm, just tried a few local tyre fitter places and got them early :)
