Downpipe fitting

Can anyone confirm that if I fit a milltek downpipe with sport cat while running stage 1 software, could it potentially damage the engine if I run it for a few months before having the software tweaked?

Could you explain more about this as I wasn't thinking I would need to spend another £300 on a remap

iirc RedRobin had the milltek TBE fitted on his car whilst still stock i.e. no remap and ran it like that for many months without any problems.
Without traction power is nothing!

I had evoms intake milltek tbe and a few other bits on mine before going straight to stage 2+ and had no problems whatsover.

If you already have stage 1 your tuner will normally charge upto £100 to upgrade your software to stage 2.  I am having issues as my tuner doesn't do staged tuning.  They can tweak the map to allow for the added flow from the sport cat etc, but I will need to complete a 450 mile round trip for the privilege.

I didn't have stage 1 pal. I fitted a few of the bits myself than ran it like that for a couple of months until i got a bit more money saved for other bits, then straight to a stage 2+ map

Next question on the fitting, the Milltek is 70mm diameter compared to 60mm OE pipe (on the vRS), whats the best way to fit the reducer?  I was thinking about having it welded to the downpipe but clamped to the OE cat back, that way it will be easier to return to standard.  Any thoughts or examples would be good?

Hey Lee, I have the Pipewerx as well so didn't need a reducer either but the reducers can be got of the internet. Welding seems like a bit of unnecessary work when the reducer with a couple of good clamps and some Hylomar to keep the jointing gas tight would do.

Sounds like a plan!  I just don't want an permanent items attached to the OE cat back.  :happy2:

I had a cone reducer welded onto the DP and a length of 2 1/4" pipe welded onto that. I think the gradual reduction via the cone is a good way to do it.

When I fitted the GTi back box on swmbo's Golf I used a step down reducer and clamps, I didn't use sealant either and it seems fine.  I just wanted something a bit more professional this time.
