most Cost effective Brake upgrade?
« on: April 03, 2009, 12:39:12 pm »
am considering getting my brakes upgraded now that the car is mapped, dont feel like the standard ones are quite up to it

would really want to spend a max of 1k and dont have any intentions of going to stage 2.

what would be the best option - get the front brake set from a cupra or R32? or would i need to get bigger pot calipers?
Candy white GTI, MRC tuning Remap - the rest will remain standard...

to be honest - i would get a WALK kit, big brakes and LSD before i go near stage 2, and only then would i do it if the insurance wasnt a complete joke.

as it stands am the most broke ive been in 5 years after spending money i dont have on a remap and other bits and pieces on the car so will be a while before i can afford it and ive still got a long time before ill get bored of the performance!

Its a popular question on here, but what do you do with your car?
track days, 1/4 mile.Or just fast road use, if its the later then 1k on a big brake set up is a waste of money the r32 would do you fine at about £500.

How are the R32 brakes different from the stock GTi ones?

Are they larger?  Have larger calipers/pots?

Bigger (345mm) discs and calipers I am led to believe.

Are they straight replacements, or are changes required...?

Fronts are a straight bolt on (if you buy all the correct parts), rears need some small modification to the splash guards IIRC  :happy2:

Anyoen know of a fitting guide I can glance through before I commit to yet another mod?

Look at me...thinking about spending more time and money...

P.S.  I don't want the calipers to be blue...can you get them in red (or will I have to paint them)?

They really are very easy to fit, the fronts are a virtually direct replacement, all you need are the Splash guards, discs, calipers, pads, carriers, and brake lines.

The rears are even easier, Discs, carriers, are all you will need, the splash guards can be reused (with some slight tweaks) and the pads and lines are the same.

Rear how to

Can't find anything as yet.  But it really is so easy

I have the leon cupra fronts on mine. Plenty of stopping power, you could even put ferodo ds2500 pads front and rear with that setup and you would still have around £250 change from £1k :happy2:
The brakes fill the alloys nicely too

Tornado red ED30, Revo stage 2, ITG Panel filter, 3" Blueflame turbo back exhaust, leon cupra front brakes, ecs dogbone mount, WALK kit, Eibach sportlines, Satin black Monza II's, VWR/sachs paddle clutch
