Hurdy, mine came with Dunlop SP Sport maxx wich I find mediocre. The car seems to have a hard time launching a little bit harder (not WOT) because of the wheelspin. I think some stiffer engine mounts would reduce this problem. Also the sidewall of the 215/40/17 tire is too small and doesn't work well with the suspension. I'm thinking about going to 215/45/17 wich would be a 3.42% diameter increase (tirerack says going over 3% might bring ABS/brake issues/failure). What's your thought on this ?

I'll be going for Toyo R1R's for the road in February and they don't do 215 section tyres in my size, so I'm going to go for 215/45/17's anyway. I wouldn't have thought you'd have any issues with ABS as all the tyres will be the same. ABS detects slip difference between wheels and not size. The speedo should be more accurate at high speeds too.

I already have an uprated "race" lower mount for the car which helps reduce the engine movement and at some point will be looking at full engine mounts too, not yet though.  :happy2:

I'm going for federal 595RSR.  Much cheaper, with loads of grip on tap.

I'm going to ruin my tyres at Mallory Park on Friday. That will thenbe completely ruined tyres after 3 trackdays, 25 1/4 mile runs and 7500 miles.  Not to bad I think, shame they gave naff all grip.

Pretty sure you can.

Or go nuts for track days and get the federal FZ201which I gather makes R888 look crap

They sound like pretty decent tyres. Possibly ay give the FZ-201's a go instead. I'll look at prices tomorrow :happy2:

They look pretty serious aswell just not in my size. Have you tried the yoka A048, similar price to the r888 but no one really uses them on here.

I run these on the Golf for track work, awesome tyres and should work even better on the lighter Polo/Vrs platform imo!  :happy2:

£135 a piece from Demon Tweeks, but was quoted very good prices by the official importer of the tyres earlier in 2010.  :happy2:
