very cheap coilovers found on ebay too good to be true?
« on: October 10, 2011, 08:59:50 pm »
simply typed into ebay :-    vw golf mk5 1.9 tdi coilovers

and found NO results from brands which i find on other sites ... ' spax , gaz, gmax , etc etc etc '

instead i simply found this : among a few other similar ones,  JOM brand , apparently from GER shipped in ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JOM-Coilover-Suspension-Kit-VW-Golf-Mk5-V-1-9TDI-NEW-/310334860276?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4841662bf4#ht_1747wt_1163

any info would be brill - because i would very much buy these for only £100 more then 40mm lowering springs... lol

cheers

"Buy cheap, buy twice" mate.

Bought similar for previous cars and always ended up buying what I should have bought in the first place.

I'd say hold out.

ps. Try the edition38 forum for used coilovers  :happy2: :happy2:

someone on another forum i was a member of bought a set of these and said he was pleasantly surprised. still, i don't think i would risk it.

i got my Weitec Hicon GTs nearly-new for £400 (with new top mounts). i love them. i can't see how KW V3s or Bilsteins could be so much better as to command 3x the price. my point is that you should hold out - a lot of ppl seem to be returning their cars to standard atm so i'm sure something will come up.

also - i am guessing i have 50mm strut diameter, as i never knew that the models had different?    hearing that the smaller engined models have 50mm and larger (gti etc) have 55mm

if so- found a few on ED38 for very very cheap lol!

the 1.9 tdi also has a 55mm diameter?   stumped again then,   though- VMaxx has coilys for around £350 which is a bit more realistic for my budget

55mm :- http://www.ruderacing.co.uk/p228683/V-Maxx_Coilover_Kit_for_VW_Golf_Mk5_Plus_1.9_TDi_DSG/2.0TDi/DSG_%5B55mm%5D/product_info.html

50mm :-http://www.ruderacing.co.uk/p228680/V-Maxx_Coilover_Kit_for_VW_Golf_Mk5_Plus_1.4/TSi/1.6/2.0/2.0T/1.9TDi_%5B50mm%5D/product_info.html

seeing the Weitech coming at around £450-500 new so bit much to be honest..

Don't expect miracles from them. Cheap? yes, good? probably not.

Yes but Vmaxx go for £370 new so at £250ish second hand seems alright...

though the amount of people saying to save more and get better, makes me rather just put 40mm springs on for now lol!

no offence tho mate, but what exactly are you trying to achieve by lowering a 1.9 soot chucker with 105bhp?

before i had my 2.0T i had an A3 1.6 Sport for 5 years and i was on the verge of tarting it up but i realised that any parts i bought for my 1.6 i wouldn't be able to sell on later as nobody would want them, and no matter what i did it'd never be the car i wanted it to be.

do yourself a favour - save the money for the car you really want. that's what i did and i'm so glad i didn't throw good money at my 1.6. i'd have never got it back.
