fitting cat back milltek exhaust
« on: October 11, 2011, 12:48:02 pm »
Looking for advice on fitting... My local friendly Mech is going to do the work (ex VW guy) but upon seeing the milltek centre section which is about 70mm diameter he thinks it will need some kind of reducing adapted to fit the pipe off the back of the cat which is about 60mm wide. Also need a clamp to go around a 70mm exhaust which local places dont seem to sell.

Any words of wisdom? Do I need to get this reducing pipe or does the milltek clamp closed over the 60mm OEM pipe?

Thanks

Interesting, how much did they sting you for that?  I have a Milltek down pipe waiting to go on the vRS, but I have the same problem where I need a 70mm to 600mm reducer.  I know I can get one on the bay for about a tenner, but I would prefer to get it from Milltek if the price doesn't take the pi55.  :happy2:

£24 inc vat next day delivery for the 70-60mm adapter and a 63mm and 73 mm clamp which i needed too

I just called milltek on 01332 227280 and they were pretty helpful even though i'd bought it 2nd hand.

Hmmmm, any chance you could post a picture up when it arrives (particularly the clamps)?  The one I got from eBay, when I fitted the GTi back box on the Golf was under £10 including delivery, stainless steel and clamps included.......

I can go with that logic, this is the one I got - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220783509427?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1718wt_1176 - when you go to pay you just enter the size you require, next day delivery.  :happy2:

Ah... oh well... i'll post a pic tomorrow.

One thing... I presume you have to lose a bit of extra length on the pipe out the back of the CAT when fitting this adapter?

Otherwise with the extra 4-6" length of the adapter the exhaust will sit way too far out the back?

I wouldn't have thought so as this is just a sleeve that sits over the existing pipes.

Anyway here at the pics.. the clamps are good quality and the sleeve ... well thats just a bit of metal piping lol

Yeah, clamps are definitely good quality, the ones supplied with mine are like this -

They do the job but I will be replacing them with the type you have, tbh I think the whole set up is a tad on the expensive side, having said that the quality will be top notch from Milltek, although I'm a bit confused why both ends haven't got splits in them?  Without them the clamp is unlikely to compress the pipe enough to hold it tight.

Just waiting for the fitted pictures and sound bite........ :popcornsoda:

one end on mine goes inside the split end on the end of my centre pipe...hence only one end on the adapter is split

So there is a split end on the Milltek part of the exhaust?  Both the joining ends I have are solid pipe so I presume that if I contact Milltek and explain my requirements then the pipe I receive will have splits on both ends, with that in mind I think perhaps the 24 quid is actually worth it.   :happy2:

Cheers buddy.

At a guess they will know the make up of exhaust components, but I will bare that in mind when I ring them tomorrow.
