Hi all, new here! Asking for advice on first buy!
« on: October 10, 2011, 08:15:44 am »
Hi all,

Recently registered as im looking at getting a ED30 and hopefully i can get advice from you all.

The car  that im looking at has DSG which does not put me off from buying it.

Has anyone had problems with the mechatronics going ?

What power rating can the DSG withstand ? (Looking at just a stage 1 for now)

Any more info would be great.

I have been searching google all night too get as much info.

Welcome  :happy2: you'll have no problems with regard to the gearbox not coping with the power, Hurdy had 440bhp. Stage 1 will see 300. A warranty is key in case it does go
GTI going...

Hi Weston,

Is a warranty worth getting out ? What is the cost of have a DSG replaced/ fixed ? Iv seen figures of 1k+ and have also heard that VW put 60% towards the cost.

Welcome - before you buy you will need to check weather or not the dsg box has recently been serviced and weather or not the mechatronic unit has been replaced under warranty. As for power it will take pretty much anything you can throw at it.

Hi Max load, thanks.

I dont think it has been replaced as the owner never mentioned anything about it.

Its 07 and has only done 16k. Its due for its 4th service end of month. Do you know what that consists of having done ?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum  :happy2:

The 4th service is the biggy, quite expensive i believe. Do a search on here the DSG mech unit and 4th service are 2 of the most covered topics.  :happy2:

Hi Topcat,

I have tried searching the forum. I believe cambelt and water pump, and a basic service needs doing such as oil/filters and sparks.

Still not 100% sure what else needs doing.

thanks all

What oil is best to use on the ED30 ? 10w40 ? or 5w30 or neither!

I have read about LL and T&D but there so many opinions out there i was just going to service it myself.

Is it crucial to buy from VW the oil also ?

Thanks
