MFD2
« on: October 17, 2011, 01:12:20 pm »
Hi all

does anyone know if there is any issue with fitting an OE MFD2 unit from a RHD MK5 Golf to a LHD MK5 Golf?Personally I dont think so, but the garage are using this as their excuse as to why its not working properly.

To get the compass working, do you just need the antenna, or the Map disc as well?

Thanks

I would suggest that, that is possibly the worst excuse I have ever heard, besides the location of steering wheel, alternate dashboard and facia and headlights, afaik a RHD and LHD are identical cars......

Although that is only imo, as I'm no expert.

For the sat nav to work correctly I should imagine you will need the shark fin antenna, and definitely the map disc inserted.

Can see no reason why that wouldn't work! Same hardware just localised to the LHD country.

You dont need the map disc in for the compass to work.

sounds total BS to me.. Im sure loads of people have imported nav's over from ebay.de to install.

Exactly!!!

I cant see the cars rolling off Wolfsburg with different units for LHD and RHD but i said i had better check to be sure. I saw u can buy them from all over the world, i assumed the connections behind the dash are the same for each country

I dont have the shark fin antenna, only the OEM one for the normal radio.

they also said the ipod dock i bought from demon666 wasnt a genuine part and not compatible with the MFD2!

Depends which iPod dock you got - If its an MDI it won't work, if its the normal iPod dock with the cradle built in it will.

Then they are telling you rubbish.

That will 100% work with an MFD2 as it emulates a cd changer.

yup thats what i thought as well, but they cut the pins out of the cradle as they said the cradle doesnt fit in the arm rest, cut a hole in the arm rest and screwed it in there, but i can dock my iPhone because of the screw heads!!!

What the hell! I'd be asking them to put the car back to how it was before they raped it! And to replace the parts you supplied which they have now butchered.

Why did you take it to VW in the first place?

I wish i never set foot in there.

The alast owner was paying to get a service done there and replacing the rear bumper, so i asked them to install parking sensors while they were doing it along with one or two other things. i didnt have the time to do it myself, althought i sorely wish i did now!

honestly if they have butchered bits you supplied without asking you first i'd be asking them to replace them or give me money to buy new ones.

i will be, i had the meeting with the service manager today to express the fact that im not the slightest bit happy with the service or the bill (850e!)

and he tried to blame the head unit. he said the old one they took out, a Blaunkpunkt aftermarket one, cables were cut, new unit not talking to the car, something about the CAN BUS........and then the LHD/RHD exuse, he said he didnt think units from the UK were working in cars on the mainland!
