Meguiars Headlight Restoration Kit
« on: October 12, 2011, 10:57:17 pm »
Has anyone tried this kit, I've got some yellowing on headlights of an X Trail I've got that needs sorting out, I've seen Alex P's guide here involving wet sanding them polishing back but this seems a safer bet and perphaps a lot quicker.

Opinions??

EDIT: It's a different kit.

I'd probably stick to a polishing pad and you can buy PlastiX instead from halfrauds.

Nice one Wolfie, the same stuff but not in the kit, I've got the pads and plenty of MF towels so saves myself £23 ... RESULT

Now anyone tried this ... does it work??

I was originally looking at a headlight restoration kit but it was the professional one so came with microfibre and polishing machine and pads.

How well does normal paint polish work on headlights? Would AG SRP work for example?

SRP is filler heavy so doesn't have much in the way of cutting ability.

What's PlastiX?

EDIT: Assume you are talking about this -

In which case does a bit of elbow grease with a polishing pad yield good results?

I can feel a weekend job coming on

Yeah sorry - I call it Plastix in my head. Easier to remember.  :innocent:

Lots of elbow grease - polisher would have done it easily.

I used Colgate whitening toothpaste to remove clouding on my xenons,  it sounds daft but it has great cutting qualities and the lights came up a treat.  I last done this about a year ago, could do with redoing this  again soon will put some before and after pics up if anyones interested.

I've heard of Autosol metal polish also being used.

I recently used the 3m restoration kit to remove a couple of marks I caused myself. Didn't expect it to be much good as it only came to about 12 quid but gota say I was impressed with the results. It's well worth a punt. I would buy another kit tomorrow. Some uk sellers have them at 30ish but I shipped one from the us for half that.
