Could someone advise if this offset will fit?
« on: October 15, 2011, 12:08:57 am »
Hi guys,

Seen a set of wheels that have really grown on me. They're 18x8.5 ET32. I'm not looking for any poke at all, but i'm guessing these will give me loads!! could somebody confirm?

they're split rims. if they'll give me too much poke can i change the barrels to help? any idea how much this will cost? i kinda wanna change them anyway as i ideally want 18x8.

cheers guys,

S.

Im running a similar set up

18 x 8.5 fronts
18 x 9J rears

both ET35

You will get poke!!! However with a slight stretch and negative camber the cars fine and legal...

What tyres are you planning on running and whats your ride height like?

cheers singh,

i'm not after masses of work. i don't want stretched tyres or to run camber. i'm all about OEM+. my car's not particularly low either. someone who knows their stuff and is looking would notice it's been lowered, but a passer by would never guess.

what about changing the barrels then?

With out changing camber or the stretch.. What kind of wheels are they?
Suppose you could change the barrels... best bet would be to get in contact with Voodoo motorsport...

they would defo be able to help you out in terms of getting the right fitment..

i'm now going down the avenue of seeing if i can have custom brake bells made to allow me to have lower offset wheels with no poke. i don't even know if this is technically possible on my car, or whether it's going to be prohibitively expensive or not. suppose we'll find out!

i do think this might be getting out of hand though. i think i'll probably abandon the idea and just go for BBS VZs instead.

for those who are interested, these are the wheels i was feening for. think they would have looked mean on an A3:

Cheers Singh but don't really like running reps

I have actually found a solution - running shallower brake disc bells. A company has advised me that they can make them for £250 + VAT which is quite reasonable i think, but it'll take them 6 - 8 weeks to make them and as I said it's all becoming a too much of a mess around.

Got some BBS VZs on order for collection on payday (Monday)  :pomppomp:

This thread has made me laugh.

So what your telling him is, "no they wont fit".  :rolleye:

A simple answer is no, you need to find a wheel with the correct spec, dont be wasting your time getting brake bells changed as the wheel will go on but still wont fit under your arches unless you do loads of work. In the real world you have about 12 mil of extra poke to play with more than a standard Monza after this distance a lowered car will give you lots of rubbing.  :happy2:

What im saying is they will fit... a touch of negative camber and very slight stretch would aid the fitment if the car is lowered..

Plus Camber adjustment on MK5's is very easy to do...

Just options to consider  :happy2:
