Massive missfire
« on: October 15, 2011, 05:27:08 pm »
Hello there,

Just been driving back home and gave it some beans, and the car hesitated, fluttered on boost, and now runs like a bag of rusty bollocks nails.

The engine shakes the entire car and the tiny 4 pot engine now sounds like a V8 .

Plugs changed 2 weeks ago. Coilpacks never changed...

This is a pic of one of my coils next to my normal looking one. Does this look burnt out to you?

I rang Dave at PDT who was VERYYY helpful and I can't thank him enough for answering to an idiot like me, twice on a Saturday evening.  :drinking: :drinking:  :notworthy: He explained its likely to be a coilpack or a sparkplug that isnt tight enough..

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem? And how they overcame it.

Nick

Very commom.  There maybe be a dealer recall on your coils packs which should get you a set of 4 for free, phone VW monday and give them your reg number and ask them if there any recalls on your car.

Sounds like mine when my coil pack was gone.

Did a fault light come on??. If it did get it scanned, if not make sure a spark plug is'nt loose and go from there.

I had a mis fire on my car shortly after fitting new plugs and it turned out to be a faulty plug.  Have you still got your old plugs to try and see if it runs okay. Failing that it will be a scan to see which cylinder shows the misfire or change all 4.  If it was me and the plugs were fine then Id change all four coilpacks as I think if ones gone then its reasonable to think the others may not be far off from going.

Well...

My exhaust light is always on due to a 3" downpipe recently being fitted.

However, when driving on misfire, the light will flash??  :chicken: :chicken:
